No. All NTRegOpt does is condense the registry, it doesn't do anything that could possibly take up multiple gigabytes.

Knowing it happens after you ran that program, this problem could be happening while you're either powering down your computer or restarting. It's odd either way, but it's something else to add to the puzzle.

No, that is just a coincidence. It seems like you have a program that is loading lots of files into memory and then the swap file is filling up and eating your hard drive.

Have you noticed your computer lagging more when your hard drive is running low on free space?

You should probably use the Recommended Security Programs to scan for virus's/spyware/malware which could be the source of your problem.

No,I haven't.
I scan weekly with those programs.

Hmm, This is a very strange problem you are having.

Does your space fluctuate everyday or just some days?

Usually after I run something to clean my computer up,the only things I use are NTREGOPT (or whatever its called :P ) and ccleaner. I use the registry cleanup on ccleaner too.

I hate to say it but I don't think I can help you with this, perhaps you should try posting on the CCleaner forum for help with this issue.

Again, NTREGOPT won't be doing this to your HDD, but you don't need to run it every day, let alone even once per week. Maybe once per month or so, but usually after major program installs/uninstalls that would have had a bunch of stuff clogging the Registry. As far as I know, all NTREGOPT does is remove any excess space between entries in the Registry, so it doesn't remove any actual data.

If your OS deems anything that you're doing is requiring a System Restore point (Seriously, I'd really make sure you're not accumulating these then clearing them out with CCleaner), you could be seeing the space fluctuate quite a bit.

Thats true, Vista could be making a restore point because NTREGOPT is modifying the registry.

Try this for us: Go to the System Restore Point control panel or whatever it's called and take note of the date for the most recent point then go to My Computer and take note of how much free space you have on your hard drive, Now run NTREGOPT, once it gets done check the date of the most recent System Restore Point if it was just created then there's your problem, now check your disk space even if a new point wasn't created, if you are missing space but no restore point was created then we need to keep looking for the problem.
