Post subject:  OSRS: It's Own Game?

When Old School Runescape was released in early 2013, many players were glad to see a reboot of the game as it was in 2007. For a while, it stayed this way (they added the God Wars Dungeon later on, which was released roughly 2 weeks after the snapshot that Old School is based on), but after a while, exclusive updates were starting to be released; the most recent of which being Zulrah, an instanced solo boss which drops the (now) best helmet in the game.

With this release, I must ask all of you: Do you think Old School is becoming its own game, or is it just releasing bits of new content to keep some life in the game?

I thought the whole point was to not release new content with it.
Because the people who play only Old School. Don't like newer Jagex updates.

I don't keep up with OSRS, although thinking about it now, it really should just be a standalone game.

RS3 has changed in so many ways from the early and mid 2000s AND the player response against it was so strong that I think in some ways it validates the need for a classic version of the game to continue to exist. Just like RSC was kept around, RS2 be kept and maintained.

I think releasing new content is a bit odd to do, but at the same time, I think it isn't the worst idea to keep people interested and paying for it. I think it's also fair that some updates (such as finishing the dragon armor item set) should be added for the sake of consistency.

I'm not sure of the point of them adding new content to OSRS; it seems to defeat the whole reasoning behind even creating it. The only additions I feel should be added into that are just simple quality of life fixes that were needed during that time.

Oh, and yes, it does feel like it should be it's own game.

I think a lot of people are treating it as the way that RuneScape should have gone in 2007 rather than a static version of the game. RS3 has lost a lot of its appeal to me and OSRS has been able to recapture the feeling of the game I fell in love with. Updates enrich that experience for me, and I don't think there's any conflict between new content and the purpose of the game. After all, they avoided the name "2007scape" in favor of Old School RuneScape for a reason.
