CinemaCon: Star Wars Movies Coming Every Summer Starting in 2015

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Star Wars: Episode VII will hit theaters in the summer of 2015 and that every summer after that will offer a "Star Wars" film, alternating with one of the standalone films.

We knew they were targeting "Episode VII" for 2015, but a summer date had not yet been confirmed. Also, while it was known they were working on standalone films, the fact that we'll be getting a "Star Wars" movie every summer is a new development. We don't know how many standalone films they are planning on making at this time in addition to the new trilogy.

J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII from a script by Michael Arndt.

just feels wrong that they destroyed lucasarts after all the things they've done for so many years and i just feel that JJ is the wrong person for the job.

he's just not going to do it well considering many scifi fans IE shane, is not happy with how the recent movies have been very pop culture heavy with nokia ads.

I'm pretty sure they ruined Star Wars when they tried to do the second trilogy, or first - sorta?

What I can't understand is how they are bringing back Mark Hammil and Carrie Fisher. Seriously, have you seen them? They're both a bit chubby and really looking their age.

Is that confirmed? I thought it was all rumours. I imagine he'll play a role like obiwan did in the older films. Just as a guide to some younger jedi. Doubt either of them are going to star in it.

I agree with Creepy. If they were brought back (which I think is still just rumored at this point, though cameos wouldn't be out of the question I'm sure), they would play much older mentoring roles which would befit their current ages. Likely, they would get personal trainer and in as good as shape possible before being cast. But, we'll just have to wait and see if they are brought on board or not...if they even want to be a part of the new series at all.

Here's my thoughts on it:
The Star Wars Story Ended when Anakin Skywalker(formerly Darth Vader) destroyed Darth Sidious(formerly Emperor/Chancellor Palpatine) by throwing him into the core of the Darth Star II in The Return of the Jedi. Sidious was the only remaining Sith Lord because of his adherence to the Rule of Two. Darth Vader was the only one who could continue the Dark Side. He was redeemed and brought back to the Light Side by his son Luke's love. Anakin Skywalker can be seen standing via the force next to Obi-Wan and Yoda in the end of Episode VI.

With that storyline how it is, I don't see how you can validly build more onto it without screwing up your already set storyline. I think the next Star Wars movies are going to screw up the Star Wars Storyline because there is no more story and because the only man who could write more story is no longer related to it(George Lucas).

Regarding the yearly releases, very bad idea. We all know what happens when a company sets release dates too far in the future. Something will inevitably have to be pushed back at some point. The first one they release will likely be the best of their new ones because they have 1 1/2 years to make it. All the others have to be made in a year and will likely go down hill in quality.

As for Mark Hamill's coming back, I think it would make sense for him to be a mighty Jedi Master(he would've been tutored by Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon Jinn via The Force) and he would've trained a few Jedi. They would still combat thugs and bounty hunters and be Guardians of Peace. Sadly he'll probably be killed in VII.
Carrie Fischer, I don't think she'd really fit except maybe in a flashback or some such. They'll likely have her in at least one light sabre battle.

In episode 7 8 and 9 the idea is that the remnant is still very much active although a shadow of their former self.

Luke ended up training han and leia to become jedi (whether leia will still look good in a bra is a different story).

but what also happens is that aliens from another galaxy starts invading and they really caused a lot of damage to the new republic.

Back in high school while getting 99 fishing and cooking, i passed the time by reading star wars wikia.

I think if they were going to do new Star Wars films they should go backwards, not forwards. As in long before the collapse of the republic etc, into the beginnings of "the old republic", into realms of the old Sith Lords, like Freedon Nadd, Naga Sadow and stuff. Christ I bet some directors could have a field day with the battle of Malachor V. Revan would make a great on screen character...

It's never going to happen though :(

problem is almost every star wars game recently before being all canned focused in the past of the old republic.

there hasn't been any game that is for the future. i wouldn't mind moving forward and see new weapons and equipment that actually looks like it is from the future.

Although man..... i would sacrifice a goat for battlefront 3 to be released and hopefully be good :(

Id be happier if they flipped them around, did games from ahead of time, like sorta pushed on from SW:FU, which was pretty badly done if being honest but has so much potential, and setting the movies back into the old republic. Even if they took some ideas out of the independent writers, like the guy who did Darth Bane trilogy. Those books are really good..

Yeah but you know if BF3 comes out, it will be made by EA. And EA will ruin it.
