Sun-powered lasers may vaporise asteroids, protect Earth

this reminds of a scene in one of the star wars movies where they shot a laser into a planet and destroyed it.

that is cool. but to build the thing would probably be very expensive. may be cheaper to just use some of our outdated nukes and blow them up.
