First time this episode has been publicly aired in Germany. Have to remember this originally aired only twenty years after the fall of the Nazi regime.

ahh yes i remember this epsiode

Spoiler for show:

kirk went to a distant planet to check on a professor. upon arrival they found that the planet is at world with its neighbor planet and uses nazi ideology to to exterminate them. kirk after lots of babbling and bad acting, kirk finds out that they were planning a full scale invasion of the other planet. kirk finds the professor and sees that he was drugged beyond belief and used as a puppet by his lesser. when asked why he choice nazi's path the professor replied "the planet was in turmoil and the economy was clasping. It was only logical." in which spock replies "makes sense, a country which was ravaged by a war and a crumbling economy, became a super power in a matter of years".

Both Shatner and Nimoy are Jewish. Wonder how they felt working on this episode.

Let's also remember that the episode would have aired < 15 years after the war. Still would be fresh in peoples minds and who knows what elements remained in the country.

I understand Germany's decision and it was probably right. But now I think most people are able to cope with their history.

That's why I like Star Trek, always deals with history in one way or another. They use it so effectively to teach a wider lesson on history and life in general. That my friends is why you should watch Star Trek.

Interesting episode. Definitely would have been too soon to release it at the time, at least in Germany. They definitely are uppity about World War II still.

I've seen every episode of the original Star Trek many times, so much so that I usually know which episode it is within the first 30 seconds of the show. I really loved all the shows that involved them being back on earth, or on a planet similar to earth. The one's where they went back in time were especially good.

If I'm not mistaken, there was also an episode of Star Trek Enterprise that involved Nazi's. where Germany had control of the United States.

season 4 i believe. daniel sent NX- ent back in time to stop a bunch of red eye aliens from disturbing the timeline which caused germany to conquer england and then the eastern US.

but then we blew up their factory sky high.
