Post subject: | Manga and Anime |
This summer, I've been getting back into watching Anime shows, usually in the original Japanese, but subtitled. I wanted to know if anyone on this forum is or was also into Anime or Manga or both at some time or presently and, if so, what shows you like the best. I'm compiling a list of recommended shows to check out. The only shows I watched all the way through this summer were... 1. Afro Samurai (not really an Anime, but close enough) 2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 3. Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple It also just so happens that these shows are free to watch on Youtube courtesy of Funimation, which I've found to be the only Anime company to put many of their shows free on the web. Also, between Manga (book version) and the Anime (television version), which one do you prefer? Also, do you prefer your manga/anime to be dubbed, subbed, or in the original Japanese without subtitles? |

I prefer to read manga because I can go at my (faster) pace than anime. The anime version of a manga I would be reading sometimes would veer off the story or will take three episodes to finish a chapter. I prefer my anime to be subbed with the original voice overs, and manga to be trans/scanlated. |

I see. Yes, anime can be quite slow at some times. I also find myself having to pause every now and then just because the subtitles go really fast and I like to read all the words. But some parts can be quite painfully slow to get though aside from subtitles and what not. As for the story lines, I know some anime shows stick very close to the original manga and others not so much. Not to mention there are many different arcs in manga that an anime isn't meant to cover nor covers at all. Btw, what is trans/scanlated mean? Also, two more questions. When you read manga, do you prefer to buy the books new/used or just read them at a bookstore or for free online? Were there any series that you really liked that you would recommend a fellow manga/anime follower to check out? |

Love anime, and if I had time to just read manga I probably would. but I usually put some anime on when I am multi-tasking something. For the same reason I prefer them to be dubbed. But if it is a real good show I don't mind watching it subbed. This are some of my favorite: - Bubblegum Crisis - Ghost in the Shell - Appleseed - Saber Marionette J (and J to X) - Witchblade - Black Lagoon - Armitage III - Elfen Lied http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Vdak ^ This is the list I have been trying to keep updated, but it nowhere near complete. Hope it helps. |

Yes. I love Anime. I don't read manga.. for the same reason I watch my anime dubbed. I hate reading.. not a fan of headaches either. I'm one of the few who actually still buys their anime. got a nice wall shelf next to my bed that holds my anime. Some of my favorites are World of Narue Welcome to the NHK Elfen Lied Please Twins Daphne in the Brilliant Blue (though have yet to finish it) |

I think it's something like.. 1 out of every 7 episodes of anime is purchased. I'm the same with cd's.. I like having hard copies of things. A guy made a really good point on another forum. (thought it was this one. *shrugs*) but he made a good point.. how don't take online postings of anime series for granted. They will not always be there.. but if you own a hard copy of it.. ...yeah ![]() |
