Since Democrats claim everything Fox News says is a lie, does it mean Michael Jackson is still alive? I first heard of Michael Jacksons death on Fox News, in fact Fox was the first of the big three TV news networks to report on his death. Democrats/Liberals/Obamabots often say that EVERYTHING on Fox News is a outright lie-so does this mean that Michael Jackson is still alive and the WTC is still standing in New York City?

OK, here's the thing about Fox News: They rarely lie, but they often severely and intentionally misinterpret and misrepresent actual facts in order promote their particular ideology, which usually involves promoting a particular republican talking point or generally promoting the welfare of massive corporations over everything else. I don't know anyone who claims that everything from Fox News is a lie, but I know exactly where the sentiment comes from.

Here is one specific example if you're so inclined to watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjwbFGRzpK4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eyTs-Idl_Q

If you're not, I'll summarize the videos anyway. Fox News was claiming that the government was trying to "regulate" the internet with net neutrality. The only sense in which net neutrality "regulates" the internet is that it stops corporations who sell internet access from preventing or slowing access to things that it does not approve of (ie. Comcast can't stop you from viewing things from other competing companies, or they can't stop you from watching movies on Netflix, etc..). Yet all over Fox News, they spun the story as if the big bad government was attempting to "regulate" the internet, while in reality, they were trying to protect our right to do whatever we like on the internet, regardless of what our ISP would prefer for us to be able to do or not do.

So yes, if you are a massive ISP company, then the government is "regulating" the internet. However, if you are an average person, then you are being protected by this idea of net neutrality. Fox News wasn't technically "lying", but they might as well have been. They completely flipped the reality of the story. This type of story is where the idea that "Fox News lies" comes from.

There are so many more, but that is just one specific example that really ***** me off.

I was watching some Youtube clip of an interview on Fox and the interviewer was like "EXCUSE ME? FOX NEWS IS BIASED? In a poll conducted among our viewers, we found Fox to be the LEAST biased of all news shows." A poll conducted of your viewers? How is that not even biased in the first place lmao. "we conducted a biased poll to disprove our bias"
Obviously your viewers don't recognize the bias since they wouldn't be watching if they did. Plus it's easier to recognize bias to opposing spin.
Also harder to recognize bias when you trust them to be accurate and thus have no previous knowledge of what they're presenting to you.

With Michael Jackson's death I don't see how you could politically spin that. But lets say that they did (not because they did), like Ryan is saying, it wouldn't be that they lied about his death.

I dunno if Fox was actually "first" to report it but regardless I dunno why all these news stations are like LOL WE DID THIS FIRST WE WILL GET YOU IT FIRST. Like what, if you were watching Fox news at the time you would know about Michael Jackson's death a couple of minutes sooner than if you were watching some other station? Who the **** cares lmao it's not like we're talking weeks sooner. I don't even watch news often and I knew he was dead the day it happened. Well I could care less that I found out he died anyways but I found out soon enough anyways.

They might be more right winged than other new media, which is fine with me since I am a Republican. Fox News might have it's flaws, but after watching MSNBC(except for their special programs. Love those. Still waiting to see Creepy on To Catch a Predator. ), I have to go back to Fox within minutes.

no channel is perfect, but at the very least, do your research.

I find it very difficult to take Fox and Friends seriously, especially since they hired Glenn Beck. Any corporation that supports conspiracy nuts like him is a bit absurd. And no, I don't watch MSNBC.

I find it hard to watch any news shows anymore at this point. I would agree Fox can be bad at times, but personally I look for the news and not the bias. You can tell when most people in news are being over the top, biased, unfactual, and opinionated.

i would say most news channels now only care about ratings.

which is why many news channels on youtube get very popular.

That's one of the reasons that I like NPR. No ratings to compete for and it's a non-profit.

FOX for entertainment, NPR for news.

Cliff Dude you really need to get your news elsewhere. Talk about bias, NPR is the most left winged news organization out there. Best part? their funded by the government YAY! SO even if you don't like you pay for it anyway :) Fox News has by far the BEST ratings is dosen't take government money.

Wrong. CPB gives money to the radio stations, who choose to purchase programming from NPR. Pretty big difference there. And how, may I ask, is NPR biased?

If you like FOX, you're probably a right wing therefore you see NPR is a clear opposite. I look for news in informational forms, not opinion. If NPR doesn't have what I have (like they've been reporting the "Middle East Revolution" lately), then there's the rest of the internet.

EDIT: Ratings do not make a new source credible. Bad games like MW2 had good critic ratings, but it was a complete piece of **** game, least for PC gamers.

Is NPR actually left-wing biased or is it just that they're not right wing? I never even heard of NPR since I'm not American. Not saying Fox isn't the only biased station, I don't know any of the others. I think O'Reilly is on Fox... I guess not news but.. I was watching some clip on Youtube of an interview he was doing about homosexuality and I was so disgusted with what he was saying that I couldn't even watch it. I know it wasn't news but pretty sure he was the interviewer lmao.
Anyways if you're a station biased to a certain ideology, people who agree with that ideology will gravitate to your station because you're telling them what they want to hear -> hence ratings. Ratings are irrelevant to how biased you are...

Something I find funny of the US, apparently repubs are called right wing and democrats left wing? which is weird because they both seem pretty right wing just repubs more extremist (there is some left wing bias for you lol)

Theres a big difference between IGN game ratings and TV ratings?
