LONDON (Reuters) – A specialist ice cream parlor plans to serve up breast milk ice cream and says people should think of it as an organic, free-range treat.

The breast milk concoction, called the "Baby Gaga," will be available from Friday at the Icecreamists restaurant in London's Covent Garden.

Icecreamists founder Matt O'Connor was confident his take on the "miracle of motherhood" and priced at a hefty 14 pounds ($23) a serving will go down a treat with the paying public.

The breast milk was provided by mothers who answered an advertisement on online mothers' forum Mumsnet.

Victoria Hiley, 35, from London was one of 15 women who donated milk to the restaurant after seeing the advert.

Hiley works with women who have problems breast-feeding their babies. She said she believes that if adults realized how tasty breast milk actually is, then new mothers would be more willing to breast-feed their own newborns.

"What could be more natural than fresh, free-range mother's milk in an ice cream? And for me it's a recession beater too -- what's the harm in using my assets for a bit of extra cash," Hiley said in a statement.

"I tried the product for the first time today -- it's very nice, it really melts in the mouth."

The Baby Gaga recipe blends breast milk with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest, which is then churned into ice cream.

O'Connor said the Baby Gaga was just one of a dozen radical new flavors at the shop.

"Some people will hear about it and go, 'yuck' but actually it's pure, organic, free-range and totally natural," he said. "I had a Baby Gaga just this morning and I feel great."

Why on earth would they call it the Baby Gaga? Just reminds me of a miniature version of Lady Gaga, not ice cream :(

But hey, if it tastes good then go for it. I probably wouldn't try it.

Bit disgusting really.

What i do wonder however is who goes into an ice cream shop and out of all the choices they could have they think "I'll pay out the nose for some breast milk ice cream." sorry but you'd have to be **** weird and itching to cure some bizzare fetish. I could understand if the price was more reasonable but at 14 pounds for some sodding ice cream? I could buy lunch and then some for that.

I saw this in the news last week. I thought it was shut down though. by health inspectors for what I believe to be "immoral"
I find it pretty disturbing.. but I would try it (as long I'm not paying for it 8))
But makes me wonder.. about who was the person to donate it, could be some.. fat , ugly, women with back acne and hairy nipples. that's the true price of the product.

I don't see how it's anymore disturbing/disgusting than getting milk from cows or other mammals (goat?... I dunno what gets milked). Except there is consent this way and probably no risk of pus in the milk XD.

Not that I would drink it because milk alone is disgusting to me anyways and in ice cream it probably tastes the same/similar as any other ice cream... not much reason to get it let alone for that price.

I did think about that point myself. Can't explain it i find the idea of drinking someones breast milk revolting. I was never raised on breast milk so perhaps it's not all that natural to me just a bit weird.

There was a chef in New York that used his wife's breast milk to make cheese.

My question is how does someone like that even think to do that I mean that would never cross my mind if I owned a Ice Cream Parlor.

My bro and I were kind of talking about this the other day. I don't think I'd be down to try breast milk. Kind of a baby/kid thing, not really for older people I think. I like cow milk, thank you very much.
