I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this guy. I read The Da Vinci Code back when I was 17 and I loved it. It was exciting, interesting, and it had a memorable story. From there, I read Angels and Demons and enjoyed that as well. Things started going south when I saw how much of The Da Vinci Code was getting pimped out to crappy film directors and crappy merchandisers. It sort of took the joy and charm out of everything. Not to mention the fact that Opus Dei had a royal fit over being the antagonists. Though I saw no real justification in their outrage (after all, the Da Vinci Code was a fictional book), I felt that Dan Brown's books were indeed very formulaic. I just finished The Lost Symbol and I was initially very hesitant about picking it up. I didn't want another "Robert Langdon outwits enemies through symbology and STILL HAS TIME TO SAVE THE GIRL! Oh and the treasure that was being sought after is really just figurative." Spoiler time: So, who here has read Lost Symbol? Did you like it? |

The Da Vinci Code was pretty good. Can't say I've read any of his other books but I might look into it. |

Some people may think him a good writer, and he may be, but the real reason that he's so popular is that he likes to write about things that are going to cause scandal, and through the scandal, sell millions of copies of his books. to be honest, he just kind of annoys me in general, and I personally prefer to read things like 1984, Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Grapes of Wrath, The Source, Chesapeake, The Foundation, Ender's Game, etc. |

I love all of Dan Browns book first of all. Like you i read The Da Vinci Code and Angel and Demons and was hesitant about reading the third because i disliked the movies. But i love Washington D.C. and plan on going to college there in a few more semesters so i thought it would be a good read. I enjoyed The Lost Symbol then the fist two and the treasure did throw me off but i like reading how the masons influenced D.C. and America. |
