Last year there was a tornado around my house. I was in the shower at the time, and my mom came and started screaming and banging on the door screaming "GET OUT, THERE'S A TORNADO!"

I hurried up and got dressed and ran downstairs and got in the safest room in the house for a tornado - my mom's closet. There's tons of clothes and there's a couple of blankets in there incase if there is a tornado. But anyway, it's a huge closet, so I got my dog in there and we were all set. My mom stays out of the closet and checks up on the computer for the current conditions when there's a tornado, but she runs down when it gets bad and hides with us.

It was (I think) the worst tornado is Colorado's history. It was in Windsor and it was devastating. My cousin's husband is a fireman, so he was out and helping people that day. There was a school that was hit, and it was completely destroyed. There were a couple of dead children's bodies under all of the rubble and debris. He's never been the same since then.

So what's yours?

My area isn't exactly known for bad weather, but here's a somewhat funny bad weather situation.

I was out on a walk in the evening, and it was very cloudy, with big ugly dark clouds. All of a sudden, thunder starts, and then right in front of me, there was a lightening strike. Well, it seemed like it was in front of me. I was on the top of a hill at the time, so I ran down it and all the way home, kind of feeling a little scared (of course, this was quite a few years ago)

The next day, I look in the paper to find that the lightening strike actually hit the Wal-mart downtown. Karma? :P

Worst weather I was in was when it was hailing the size of golf balls, luckily I wasn't outside during this time. Lots of buildings in my area were damaged.

I worked a few years on a floating fish processor in Alaska. In winter we processed crab and the storms would produce huge swells and cake the ship with ice so thick it had to be broken off with bats and pushed overboard. Good times.

To the guy above me...

My heart goes out to you..... I was in australia when it happend, so i didnt get the full picture of what the damage was like. The news wasnt really helpful over here iether -.-

My worst would have to be while i was camping. I was in the glasshouse mountians in australia with my bro and dad. They wnet outside to get wood for the fire. I stayed inside since i was a bit tired. Then out of nowhere, The wind picked up and the tent i was in literatllty came apart. The hailstorm came up a bit later. Then, my dad brother and i gathered up what wasn't already gone, ran to our cherokee (jeep). then drove home.

The next day, we had to air out the car so mildew didnt set in.

cheers, dafin0

 It was in '06, my apologies.

My parents are in the US military, so we move around a lot.

I lived in Florida when Katrina was passing by.

We don't really get bad weather around here but it was probably when I was without power and phone for a week, with 2 trees down across the road. It felt really isolated without the phone or power. All in a Canadian winter with a 30 minute car ride to the nearest town...but trapped by two trees.

I've been in a couple bad weather situations. I think the worst would be a tie between a very thick blanket of fog while driving at night or rain dropping in buckets while driving. Either way, my vision was badly impaired and I could hardly see a thing. On the rain situation, there was also the worry of skidding or hydroplaning. One I didn't mention but is worthy of note was a snowstorm that started right as I left school at 2:30 one day. It must have dropped 2 or 3 inches while I was driving home (which is only a 15 minute drive ). People on the road were really shocked and not ready for that much snow that fast. Neither was I, to tell the truth.

I don't have any really harrowing tales of bad weather, but our basement flooded one night when it rained real hard. My brother and I spent hours mopping up the mess.

That happened to me as well. We've never had anything flood on us before, and it was a freak rainstorm that lasted the entire week, non stop. True BC west coast weather. Pretty much spent most of 2 nights and 3 days mopping it up into buckets, which I would carry and empty outside. Tiring, tiring work. Worst week of my life, totally exhausted after it was finished.

Gloucester (where I live) flooded in 2007 the same week I returned from Berlin. I wasn't directly affected besides the water supply going out and the power supply being intermittent. Nothing compared to hurricanes or earthquakes but probably the worst you're going to get in middle England. Oh, but there was that hurricane in Birmingham a few years back.. hmm..
