I think thats a prety cool family. Glad the family didnt get hurt. MSNBC wrote: Texas Woman Kills Home Intruder With His Own Gun
Thursday, September 04, 2008 E-Mail Print Share: BLUE MOUND, Texas — When two gunmen smashed through the glass front door of her suburban Fort Worth home, Kellie Hoehn didn't think twice. The 34-year-old mother of two grabbed a shotgun that had been pointed at her face early Wednesday, starting a struggle that ended with one intruder killed with his own weapon and another in the hospital. "I wasn't going to let them get to my babies," she said, recalling the moment when she pushed up the muzzle of the shotgun, pointing it away from her children's rooms. Although the intruders told her to keep quiet, she screamed for her husband. She told her 12-year-old son, who was awakened by the sound of the shattering glass front door, to get his 5-year-old sister and hide. "It was like a horror movie," her husband, 32-year-old Keith Hoehn, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I thought I was a dead man. We're fighting for our lives." With Kellie Hoehn clinging to the weapon's muzzle, her husband tackled the man who held the shotgun. She knocked the intruder in the head with a jar candle, giving her husband a chance to wrest the shotgun. By then the tussle had spilled out onto the front lawn. Keith Hoehn shot one of the men who had a pistol, police said. Wounded, that man ran away. Then the intruder who initially had the shotgun charged Keith Hoehn. Kellie Hoehn told The Dallas Morning News that she screamed at her husband, "Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him." Her husband fired the shotgun and the man fell to the ground. Then the shot man lunged a second time. "Well, I shot him again, and I guess that was it," Keith Hoehn said. Dakota Scott Benoit, 20, of Richland Hills, was pronounced dead at a hospital. John Garland Pierson, 25, of Haltom City, was in critical condition and in police custody at the hospital. "I am not happy that someone is dead," Kellie Hoehn said. "But I am glad that my family is alive." Police said Pierson was shot in the left arm and the bullet pierced his diaphragm and other organs but his condition was improving. He will face charges of burglary of habitation with intent to commit another felony, police said. Investigators say the couple were just defending their family and probably won't be charged. |

At least they won't be charged. I remember a robber charged a lady for assault while he was burgling her. |

Great a killer murders one person and wounds another and gets away with it. ...does anyone know why they decided to leap into their home with shotguns in hand? Seems like a funny thing to randomly get up and do one day. |

If someone tried breaking into my place I wouldn't think twice about shooting them, since they probably wouldn't leave if I asked nicely ... but with their own weapon ... jeesh ![]() |

If someone smashed into my house with a shotgun, my first thought wouldn't be, "Gee, I wonder if he's only trying to control me or if he plans on killing me? I'll just sit patiently and find out." I'll be trying to kill anyone who smashes into my house with a gun, thank you very much. |

He didn't have the gun though, the other person did and should've tried his best to disable him and call the police, if that's what he didn't try his best to do. |

Ideally the family would have gotten the gun and just held the intruders until the police came. But, the family was waken up in the middle of the night, extremely scared, and they didn't know burglars intentions. I can understand why they did that under the circumstances. I just feel bad for the intruder's family. |

Matthew1987 wrote: That's just ignorant, there's nothing cool about killing a kid. But, what would you do if you were in their shoes? You'd let your children, under the age of 10, let get hurt or even killed? I would rather make the person who has broken into my house get the hell out, even if we have to take a gun to the head. But the thing about this story is at first the mother says that the burgalar had his shotgun to her face. She turned the tables on the man, which is not a thing you see every day. It was his gun, never the less. I honestly would rather see a stranger with a gun die than my children and/or wife. It's terrible that the man was killed, of course. But what else was the family to do? Let him attack the family? Obviously if you heard your glass door get broken through by two gunmen you'd be alarmed and afraid. I would do anything for my family in that situation. How is it ignorant if you're protecting you and your family from harm, or even death? They shouldn't get charged for murder, they were only protecting themselves. It's terrible when people do things like this, and the family takes control of the situation, and if someone gets killed, they go to prison. It's not justice. |

I dont see how you would just let two men, come into your home with weapons and not do anything about it... |
