Hugo Chavez is hated by his county, America had made no threats to Venezuela. So go ahead Chavez, buy your subs and i hope you bring them into the gulf of Mexico. Does Russia really wanna start this again, we can out spend them by 4x on military so i really dont know what there trying to pull? Your thoughts on this new deal, a possible alliance against America.

Reality is a war would screw up both of you. Neither of you are in the position to kick off a war. America isn't the super power it once was, country's are catching up and these recent wars have taken their toll.

And russia? No, there not about to start anything.

I wouldn't worry to much.

I think Russia is just doing business as an weapons dealer while promoting its interests, and Chavez is reinforcing his position not only to the US but to Columbia as well, because Venezuela and Ecuador almost ended up trading blows with Columbia not that long ago. If we look at our own arms deals, we are reinforcing our own positions against other powers, like selling weapons to Pakistan (against India) and Saudi Arabia (against Iran). The Cold War is over, but both sides still eye each other warily.

I am very surprised that Saudia Arabia is buying weapons from the US for use against Iran for 2 reasons. 1, they're both Muslim countries, and Saudi Arabia is known to give aid to other Muslim countries, be it financial or military, when the need arises - If **** hit the wall with Iran, i would assume that the Saudi Arabians would side with them. 2, Saudi Arabia is a very rich country, sitting on massive oil stockpiles; I'd assume they wouldn't need to buy weapons from the US.

I'd assume the same with Pakistan minus the Muslim part as India isn't Muslim, but add, the last time people in the west were at war with India was when the British Empire was expanding into it about 2-300 years ago. Since when has contact with India been strained?

I'd like a little bit of source which explains these for me, if you could.

Iran and Saudi Arabia may both be Muslim theocracies, but they are different sects of Islam. The Saudis are Sunni muslins, while the Iranian government is Shiite. these sects have been in conflict since the death of Muhammad. Both governments have been trying to improve relations over the years. The Saudis buy technology from us more than weapons, though we do sell them fighter jets and missiles.

Pakistan and India have been at war several times over their religions (Islam and Hinduism), and the US is trying to show India that it is the dominant power, even as India rises in power and influence, but not trying to start any real conflict against India, because the US sees it as a possible ally against China.

Much appreciated. Should have thought about the Sunni/Shiite thing.
