Legal or Illegal? I say legal, because technically it is a "file sharing" system. There is a $200 fine if you have it on your computer, but still, the question is asked. And at the moment, you cannot go to court for downloading. Only uploaders are being procecuted.

As long as the songs come with a free license they are legal for personal use, not distribution. Meaning it's legal to download them, however the people you're downloading them from are committing an illegal act.

Truth in law in England.

See RuneWire post Here.

The program is legal, as you can download legal things with it. However, piracy is piracy.

That being said, only the people who get busted care that it's illegal. Not many people have stopped using it.

Having the program limewire on your computer shouldn`t be illegal, but I think downloading pirated files is illegal. I don't think a song is worth $0.99 (average). I think it should only cost around $0.10 a song. That way it's so cheap that there wouldn't really be a reason to download illegally because buying it legally is so keep and right. However, people would still just illegally download because they think they can get away with it.

Some university did a study however long ago, and found that the best price for music is $0.05. You'd be a fool not to pay 5 cents per song and have no chance of being punished. Plus, the price made sure the recording companies would get plenty of money, potentially more than with the rates they've got now.

Hey someone acually reads my Runewire posts...... Lol
And yes, I do get most of the music off limewire, but I would say that 100 of the songs so far have the copywright on them. So I am only 100/20000= 1/200.

You cannot be punished from downloadind music. It's only minor piracy what millions of people do. Only some very hardcore pirates get punished, and those are the ones who download terabytes of pirated material.

Why isn't this in Non Rs Discussion o.O

Anyway, I believe that it depends on what you're using it for. Just like torrenting, you can get legal and illegal stuff.

I agree with Pfkninenines, that they would get more cash because more people would buy it. A 15 dollar Itunes card would go alot farther than a movie and 5 songs.

It's legal if you download legal stuff from it. Other than that, it's just a crap programme.
