http://community.discovery.com/eve/foru ... 1919888/m/2351996369 Should MythBusters attempt to bust the thetan reader? Found this through Digg, and of course it's getting plenty of attention. I'd like them to do this, if not just to make Tom Cruise cry. Something tells me even if the public is 100% supporting this, they won't. If they did, they'd have to go and try to dispel other religious myths in a never ending cycle. Either way, take a vote. |

Yes they should. I'd be curious to see how they bust it and what will happen if they do. |

I would like them to, but it wouldn't be very smart. Thats like killing off your religion on public television. It'd lose alot of views, and maybe cancelled. ![]() |

i'd rather they not. even if that religion is a little crazy to bust something this big would be just plain stupid. 1. they would get sued 2. most of the myths they do are little more of common legend type myths 3. to completely try to bust this myth they would open up a new door about "trying to bust the myth that god exist" |

As much as people don't like their beliefs questioned, people really don't like their religious beliefs questioned. I'd be surprised to see this one. |

I don't really see Scientology as a religion, just a pyramid scheme. gonearctic wrote: wait first of all, what is a thetan reader? sorry im just ignorant of these things ![]() The E-Meter, as it's called, is a "special" device that supposedly measures the power of your mind and the potency of your energy. All people joining Scientology are tested using the e-meter, though there is already a lot of controversy as to whether or not the device really proves anything. Edit: To be more on-topic, yes, I do think they should "bust" the myth of the meter. Information is information and people deserve to at least have a second opinion. |

True believers aren't going to be swayed by Mythbusters but they may be insulted enough to cause problems for the show. I don't see anything positive that can come out of this show. The E-meter is false? I already believe that without seeing the episode. |

Well the problem is all of the people in Hollywood that believe in it such as Tom Cruise. They have not only a lot of money but they have influence. If something did upset the actors and actresses that do practice Scientology, you can almost be certain that the show would either be canceled or the episode would never air. I would still like to see them try it though, I think it would be quite interesting.... |

i think it would be hilarious to see them do it, but as said before, there would be huge issues and a probable lawsuit filed, but other than that it would be great |

The E-meter is false? I already believe that without seeing the episode. I don't think that they should refrain from doing it because it'd offend people. If we're on the topic of religion, the Bible has been picked apart from people of all different views yet it's a book of such compact meaning that no one view can truly be seen as the "right" way of reading it. The e-meter is a different issue. It's an actual electronic device that Scientologists allege outstanding claims about. Not too long ago, in an American mall, I saw Scientologists conducting a test to see how "stressed" a person was. It was advertised as free and along with the free test came "free" advice (aka solicitation into the club). They are using this e-meter to web people into their cult with an innocent-sounding purpose ("Oh, we just want to see how stressed you are!"). I'm sure that you, me, and most people on this forum would know that the e-meter is a joke, but other people..well..don't. Should we allow their ignorance? There's really no right answer to that question, but I don't think that the matter should be dropped because it might offend people. |
