Maybe it'd be a littler easier if you maybe sent a private message to someone who knows instead of making a whole thread about it?

I dunno thats just me.

No, this is discussion about the topic.

Maybe Shane has some logical explanation behind it.

Personally, I try to understand how it might be true. I can't though.

It doesn't make much sense, if something is changing... then it changes. It doesn't stay the same.

The only possible way that I see that the statement is true, is if something goes through changes a lot more than it should. "It's changing again, what a surprise... Same old, same old."

Change and same are opposites it doesn't make sense, the saying is wrong. The more things change the further away from being the same they get.

A human being changes as they age, they aren't the same are they? They mature, they change in personality and in appearance.

What it means is that... the bigger the change that happens, the longer that change will stick around. For example say you work somewhere. There's a 80% turnover in staff. This was a big change. Nonetheless things will stay the same after this for a good amount of time. And to top it all off your day to day business will remain the same.

It's basically a way of saying that if there's a big change in something, this change will stick with you for a long time, but your day to day business will remain the same. I hope this makes sense...

Your explanation made some sense.

But you should re-word your motto. :P

Yes while his explanation makes sense, the saying itself does not.

Very true, mostly becuase the saying itself does not fit with what Shane said. If so, then the saying would be: Just because things change, doesent mean they will be any different.

The saying itself does not have anything to do with what Shane said, because if even more of the staff was replaced, then that does not necessarly mean that it will be the same anymore than it was before.

Haven't people been through this already?

I personally tend to smile and nod when I hear it.

I think it's one of those philosophical statements that bases its entire meaning behind the perception of the reader. After all, perception is reality.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same" If something continues to change, then the change becomes the 'norm' which is the same. So essentially the same becomes the change and vice versa.

Oh well..... Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

To me it's just a big oxymoron, I see it antropological, people just mostly strive to one purpose, how more they change, the goals stays the same.

Or maybe an easier saying for that would be something like, "The bigger the change, the longer they stay around."

Eh? Eh?
