Is black a color? I would encourage you to include a reason why you think black is or isn't a color.

Black is a color because

A. We see colors,
B. Back is a color that all colors mixed together make,
C. Black is the color of night, so it has to be,
and,
D. Black is the worst color of them all.

Black is a color. Black Demons, would you call them colorless? Nope, because they are black. Therefore, black being a color is reinforced.

Yes it is. I don't really see how i can explain any further than anyone else already has. It is, it's unquestionable.

I've heard the stuff about it not REALLY being a real colour but er, don't believe it.

If something was going to be questioned, I think it would be 'clear'.

As I started typing this, I was going to type, "If any color should be questioned. . .", but I'm not sure 'clear' is a color. It's more of a description or a state of transparency.

I thought it was just a shade.

Take any colour and lower it's brightness to 0% you get the shade of black.

A shade of what? A shade of any color. Therefore it would start as a color and end as one too.

Well, what our eye sees and how our brain interprets the information are two separate things. What our eye really sees when we look at a black object is just dark grey since true black absorbs all light and does not reflect any back. True black is actually being researched and developed at some university in the US, but their current version still reflect some light. I guess we can conceive of true black in our minds, but our eye has yet to see it.

As for being a colour, I'd suppose so. We base colour on the spectrum of light and black is just at both ends.

So basically, black aka true black is a color of course, but it's something we can't see?

Well, people define the word "colour" differently. In art, and just when normally talking, we use the word "black" instead of saying "really dark grey". So, in informal terms black exists as a colour.

Real black is really just a theory. And when I say "just a theory", I'm not saying it in a dismissive tone. It does exist, but we can really only imagine it. Some people say that since we can't see true black, black isn't a colour. It's all semantics. It's.. "in the eye of the beholder". :o *tackled by the masses for making crappy pun*

In terms of dyes, painting, and the CYMK colour palette - yes, black is a colour.

In terms of light, the way the eyes work, and the RGB colour palette - no, black is not a colour. It is an absence of colour.

I would say it is a colour. Everything we see is only there due to colour, we see black, black is a colour.

So "real black" is the absolute zero of colors?

In terms of how our eyes see colours and light and stuff, yeah.
