Post subject: | The Ultimate Question: Star Wars or Star Trek? |
Ok, so Poison (Matt) and I had a little kerfuffle about which was better: Star Trek or Star Wars. I realised that this question has neverrr been asked here, so I wanted to know what everyone thought. I think that Star Trek is the best. It has several series and films that (mostly) are wonderful. The storyline is so flexible and they've done so well at keeping it interesting. I also think that it's better because I find Star Wars to be too childish. Just my opinion. ![]() So, because I'm only adding two options to this poll, I don't want replies like "Both suck". You're free to click on any other topic and reply elsewhere if that's the case. This thread is for people who are either partial to one or the other. Now: Which is better and why? |

Star Wars. Two words: Best movie of all time. Also, Shane watches Star Trek. I think I've proven my point. ![]() - Matt |

Star Trek. I've been watching it longer than Star Wars. I have seen the original series, Animated series, Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager and Enterprise. The moves were awesome too. It's something I grew up with. (My brother loves it) |

Star Trek - 100% Here's why: - They were first. The way I and a few of my other Star Trek counterparts see it is that Star Wars wanted the success of Star Trek. Basically Star Wars is just a fancy pop culturafied version of Star Trek. - The first Star Trek series was cancelled after the first season. NBC who was carrying the show at the time got thousands of letters to bring it back. This is truly dedication of the viewers. - Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry with a vision of what our future should be like. Ask anyone who watches it if they'd like to live in 24th century earth. - As MQ said above the story line is flexible. You can have the high paced action of the invading borg which is great for me. Or you can have the slower style seen in Insurrection with a tad of romance which is great for people like my mom. - Taking an average of 24 episodes per season, 7 seasons in TNG, DS9, and Voyager, 3 seasons in TOS, 4 seasons in Enterprise you have about 700 unique episodes. Plus the 10 full length feature movies and the animated series from the 1970's. There's more content. So based on your mood you could find an episode that works. - Star Trek also looks at our history and provides valuable lessons. There is this one episode that basically gives a lesson to the World War 2 Nazis and teaches them that they weren't "the master race." - Based on all the episodes/movies there are places out there where you can actually read about the fictional technology. I'm not sure that star wars would have a website like the Daystom Technical Institute Library - Star Trek has influenced our technology whether you like it or not. Without Star Trek two pieces of technology I'm sure most of you have would not exist: the iPod and cell phone. There was a great documentary on discovery sometime last year about this hosted by William Shatner himself. This was called "How William Shatner Changed The World" These are my main reasons. If I think of anymore I'll certainly let you know. I should add that I have been watching it since I was about 5. My parents watched the original when they were young. For those of you have not watched an episode I highly recommend that you do. For anyone interested here are some resources: - The Daystrom Institute Technical Library - Good for learning about the show. For example: how does warp drive work? - Wikipedia page - Official star trek website. - My personal star trek bookmarks |

^Essay ftw. ![]() - I'm biased, because I haven't watched many Star Trek Episodes (and no movies) at all. But I have enjoyed a few of the Star Wars movies. So I voted for them. |

Star wars by miles. It actually has a solid story carrying on throughout all the films, the characters are so much more involved and when they die, you actually feel an attachment and sadness for there deaths. By the off chance that someone in star trek tops it, well, no one cares. Star trek is liked a dumbed down version of star wars, less details, a lesser plot, a galaxy that just doesn't suck you in as well as the star wars universe does. Can't be compared star wars any day of the week. And if anyone wants to bloody argue i put this to you: Obi-Wan kanobie (sp badly) VS captain john luke. Fat old bald guy or amazing Jedi. |

Star Wars. Star Trek can not even compare. In my eyes Star Trek was a TV show, it did have some movies but nothing could compare to best selling movie series Star Wars. Star Wars had 7 movies, several comic books, video games sequels, and tons of other stuff. |

Star Wars also has something we can all relate to. Jabba the Hutt. |

That's five. Star Wars, definately, the storyline is great and stuff. The world of Star Wars is pretty much about 10 times bigger than Star Trek's anyway. |

They even travel through time. So just the mere fact that they travel through time means that the universe is at least twice as big as star wars. |

It's just that there's so much outside material of Star Wars, all the games, comics, TV shows, information.... ALOT. |

Not to meantion star trek sorta goes to aplanet, spends 30 minutes worth of air time on it and buggers off never to return. Star wars, while it might not explore outside of it's own universe has many planets, all with history, details, and so on. It is just so much more deeper than the star trek universe, sorry shane. ![]() |
