Post subject:  Life mottos and philosophies

Are there any life mottos or philosophies that you live by?

How much difference do you think they make to your life? And did you make them up yourself, or are they little things made by someone else you believe in and live by?

Post away.

"Its better to be hated for who you are then be loved for who your not"

My grandpa's army company had the best motto ever tho."We stand alone, together."

"Treat others how you want to be treated"

Well that's not helpful.

"He who follows another's trail never leaves his own footprints."

Don't remember who it's by, to be honest, but it's not me. :)

That line really helped me learn to choose what I want, not what others want for me. That really came in handy when like half my family went against me for a couple days for getting a tattoo. :?

Nolite bastardes carborundorum!

I don't really have a motto. But, I've always subscribed to the philosophy that if I have the same exact beliefs, opinions, and feelings on things by the time I'm an old person.. then I've learned nothing from life.

"There are tons of idiots in this world, you will never have enough time to spend on every single one of them."

Edit: Also I have a poster which says "Never give up". It looks something like this (I can not find the excact image, you get the idea).

Hmm, some I just go by as a joke, others I really use...

"You only live once."
My mate said it to me whilst a few of us including girls were going to jump into a pool in the middle of the night, and it was prtty much the only thing that made me get in. And everytime I think "Why should I bother." about going somewhere or something, I always think of that phrase.

"Never try, never fail."
Got it from Robots, made me laugh, and I joke about it, and sometimes I choose to go by it.

"Should've, would've, could've, but didn't."
I thought his one up myself, although, I know I didn't create it, I've seen tones of people use it, but I thought it too myself before I saw others using it.

"Life's a b*tch." and "Sh*t happens."
Probably my favourite too because they're so blunt and truthful, even if they are a bit rude.

Here are mine:

A truth that's told with bad intent is worse than all the lies you can invent - that's actually by William Wordsworth, and it is very true. If I really want to insult someone a lot (which is actually pretty rarely) I will insult them with things they know are true - it hurts them far, far more than with a stupid insult like 'You're a d*ck.'

Always, *always* listen. - If someone has something to say, there is nothing more annoying to them than being ignored. It can also be rather annoying if you ignored them and their opinion turns out to be rather important later on.

Only make a judgement once you know all sides of a situation/ - If you jump to conclusions after only hearing one side or the other, bad things happen. Only make a decision or judgement once you have seen all the sides of an argument.

Trust no-one. - Every time I meet someone, I initially assume that they are probably untrustworthy. I never leave my computer in a state where people can use it by locking the screen. I hardly ever lend people money (in fact, I can't remember a time when I have).
