So..it looks like they found a planet that is similar to Earth:

Interesting... I wonder how long before they can test for possible life.

They said on the news that they expect that nothing could live on the dark side of the planet because it's so cold. Knowing the media, that means there's probably trillions of organisms inhabitating the area (possibly).

Still a very interesting discovery none the less.

Even traveling at the speed of light it would take us over 20 years to get there so I don't think we'll be visiting people there anytime soon.

Possibly probes, but they'd take decades to get there.

I'm not sure if this is the same one but there was a report on the news of a planet like earth a few days ago, they can't even see it with telescopes let alone get there.

If it's the same one i don't see the point in people reporting on it, it's impossible for us to reach or even see, we should take it one step at a time. Mars next and so on. :P

Sadly it willt ake years to reach this new planet. I mean we havent even gotten a probe to Pluto yet =s

(It is on it way to Pluto though XD )

From my less-than-rudimentary knowledge of space exploration, we don't actually have to reach a planet to test for life.

Yeah i know, but seeing as it is farther away from Earth then Pluto, and we know so little of Pluto, it seems really hard to clarify that there is life on the planet. Plus I can be 100% sure unless we visit the planet. (or there are huge alien creatures roaming around the planet XD)

i wouldn't say it's any near to "super", seeing as it's only 0,5 times bigger than earth. :?

I saw something on the news that said due to the climate they think if there is any life it'll be similar to insects.

Oh god, that gave me a frightful picture in my head. If this "super-Earth" has a higher amount of oxygen in the atmosphere than these supposed insects would be huge.

During the evolution of the Earth, when there were large amounts of oxygen, there were huge insects that were like.. 4-5 ft long. They got to that size since they breathe through their exoskeleton.

*shudder*

huge roaches..or..if its a planet..whales the size of football fields? lol

anyways...if the government would put more money into physics research and not missles and offence, then we would easily have a man on mars, a colony on the moon, or even be out of the solar system in a matter of years
