Now I'm not taking a stab at all you game addicts, but I just want ask you guys what you think about, well what the important things are in life.

I was listening to the radio last night (a general comedy program) and it covered something that I consider to be important and quiet honestly one of the most horrific events to happened in the 20th century; the Holocaust.

It was the biggest murder machine in the whole of human history. If you are unaware of what the Holocaust is I'll just clarify: The Holocaust took place during the Second World War, when the Germans tried to wipe out a whole race; in total they tortured a brutally killed over 6 millions innocent Jewish people. The most infamous death camp is Auschwitz.

The reason I am interested in this subject is that Holocaust Memorial Day is the 27th January; my birthday. Another reason is also that apparently it is only taught for an hour in schools in the UK. I don't approve of this, so, whilst telling me what you think are the most important events in history recent or ancient, can you give me any information on the Holocaust or 20th century history.

So finally, what events in history are important to you?

P.S. This is quite important to me so please don't make pointless and irrelevant comments, I know you won't ;)

Thanks,

~Samuel

I'm not sure, the 2006 London Bombs happened in the same month as my birthday, but I don't know much about history.

It doesn't matter when it happened, near B'day or not. Just anything you think is important or shocking if you get what I mean.

9/11 Impacted me the most since I was alive, and knowledgeable when it happened.

9/11

Impacted me alot for what Ranging God said...and I have seen the videos of the survivors and I think of how terrifying it would have been to be in the building at the time....also the planes :?

I remember on 9/11 when I woke up, I watched the news as I was walking out the door to head to school. At that time, they hadn't really figured out much about what had happened, but it gave me a strangely sad feeling inside. I went to school not knowing what was going on, and yet I still had that strange feeling. Once I figured out what happened, it did impact me hard. I was lucky enough to not have any friends/family in any of the planes, but I still felt sad for all the people that died for such a stupid act of terror.

Just on the note concerning the Holocaust, in my history class we are studying World War 1 right now, and today the teacher told us an interesting fact I never knew. Hitler fought in World War 1 and was injured during the war, it was unfortunate to everyone that he didn't die. If he had died, it would have saved the life of millions.

I have older family members that were taken to the camps during World War 2. One of my family members was brought into a chamber, but not gas to kill them came out, boiling hot water came out. When I learned of this, they told me they just got down on their knees and began to pray to god for saving their life, despite the hot water comming down on them. It was a horrible thing, and I don't know how someone could live with the feeling knowing you are torturing and killing millions of people.

@ Sam, i don't think it means that much by using the word 'jews,' not exactly a nice name for a jewish person. I was at my friends birthday party on 9/11, hes not too happy on his birthday anymore :(

@Dave: I knew Hitler fought in WW1, but it never clicked with me that millions could have been saved if he was killed.

@penguin: My R.E. teacher uses the word 'jew', and he doesn't think it is offencive to Jewish people. If anyone did find that offencive I am very sorry.

I don't know.. if I were called a Jew, I'd feel mildly offended since I usually only hear that term from people who aren't too fond of them.

I suppose a day that sticks out in my mind is March 5th. That's the day Stalin died. Good riddance to him.

Someone who was born in one of the concentration camps during the 2nd world war is coming to my school on Monday to tell us about her experiences and how it has impacted on her life etc.

Didn't Hitler want to kill pretty much everyone to make some sort of "perfect race" of people that had blue eyes and blond hair as well? It wasn't just Jewish people that got killed in the holocaust it was people he thought looked like they were Jewish as well. He thought that if someone had a large nose they were Jewish, kinda stupid i know but thats the way he thought. I'm pretty sure this is all correct information if not, my bad.
