Dunno if this has already been covered, if so, sorry for the spam, not intended. So: Let's call .99999~ (that's a decimal followed by an infinite number of 9's) a variable x. So that means that x = .9999~ So by that logic, 10x = 9.9999~ If you subtract x from 10x, you get 9.00000~, as in the equation 10x - x = 9.00000~ This means 9.0000~, or just 9 (I put the 0's there to show that all the 9's after decimal went away), equals 9x. 9x = 9 Divide each side by 9, and you get x = 1. That means that x is equal to .99999~ and 1 at the same time. Therefore, .99999~ = 1! There is also another (less complicated) way to find that 0.99999~ = 1. 1/3 = 0.33333~ 3 * 1/3 = 3/3 = 1 So, 3 * 0.33333~ = 0.99999~ = 1! ![]() This post looks kinda nerdy but it shocked me to see that 0.99999~ =1 lol By the way, everyone has A) Seen it before, and not cared, or B) Never seen it before, and doesn't care. ![]() |

Hmm, interesting. For general things like money, $0.99 is $1 for me anyways. ![]() |

![]() You bring up a good thing, if only stores would just stop doing the 99 cent thing. If it's one dollar, make it one dollar, I don't want 99 cents. |

Studies have been done on whether or not people bought more of an item that was "€19,99" or "€20,00" and they prefer the €19,99. *shrug* |

The more 9s there are the closer to one it gets. It is more sensible to round it up since you don't need so many dps. |

well i was watching a special on shopping. they did 2 test, they were selling canned soup for .99 no limit. people bought only 1-2 and that was it. then a few hours later they put up "limit of 5 per person" and everybody that went by bought all 5. also if you shop with a list you're more likely to be spending more because after you have everything on the list you tend to "hey i deserve something for myself" |
