So is anyone else excited for this new a7x album? It'll be a whole new direction without the Rev but the first single, Nightmare, sounds really good

Oh nice. I've been looking forward to this album for months now! It does sound quite good, just like I'd expect A7X to be. I honestly can't tell much difference between the sound of this and their last 2 records, and that's probably a good thing.

You should do a CD review when it comes out. :P

Aha I most certainly will :)
I think it'll be noticeable on some aspects, particularly the vocals that the Rev sometimes contributed. In addition, the album following this one (if the band stay together that long) could have a different sound because the Rev won't be there to write the drum track, for this one he died just before they were due to record, having already written the drum track.

I hope they do stay together. I really do hope they'll pull through, and find a good drummer. Portnoy's a beast, but as he's stated, he's just a fill in drummer to help the band heal and find someone permanent.

Do you know if Dream Theater are on hiatus at the moment? Portnoy has been announced as a7x's touring drummer for a summer 36 date US tour, starting this summer. I think they'll hold it together, they may well just get a session drummer from now on and then get Portnoy or other similiarly talented drummer to join them for tours.

Bah i hate teasers for songs. A trailer for a film/game works well. For a 3-5 min song it's awful.

I got nothing from that. Can't tell if i like it or hate it. Sounded like there last album stuff which would be a disapointment as they've changed it up everytime so far. Guess I'll wait for the 18th.

I felt the teaser set the tone pretty well, and it demonstrated that the old a7x is still there and hasn't been completely wrecked by the loss of the Rev.

I believe Dream Theater's tour schedule just finished as A7X's was about to start. I doubt they're on hiatus, just taking a break to let Portnoy do his thing. He'll probably be going back to DT after the tour is finished.

the song is great. and it is different than the city of evil album by far. still not their original roots seen on waking the fallen. their better album, can't wait to hear the album as a whole in july when it comes out.

Much like their self titled album, I think this one will grow on me the more I listen to it. It sounds like a good single, but I'm still excited to hear what the album will sound like all together.

The release date will be July 27th.

The lyrics seem shallow (but hey, it's A7X) and I'm not sure I like it as much as the self titled album, but as all the rest of their songs have it'll probably grow on me. :P

I agree completely. XD

I have a feeling that a few of the songs will a have a deeper meaning, but we all know that the first single is made to make hype - it's a playable song with a hook, a chorus, and a fast beat. One could say that Nightmare is an example of the pop version of metal. We can't necessarily judge the entire thing on the first song, but even though the lyrics are rather bland, the song still works, and i still find myself listening to it a lot. A7X do their work well.

I Love A7X they are my favourite rock/metal band, I love beast and the harlot + Afterlife. When i saw on the news that the rev had died i just suddenly felt down for about 3 days and felt kinda depressed, He was like my idol..Since i play drums i looked up to him as the best :) I cant wait to buy this new CD.
