Linux Client Improvements

This week we thought those pesky penguins were up to their old tricks, but it turns out that it was only the Game Tech team getting way too into their update to the Linux Client. Read on to find out more about that, plus the latest additions to the Merch Store and the RuneFest Stream Survey.

RS Linux Client Improvements

We've updated the RuneScape Linux client! If this applies to you, then read on. If not, you might want to skip this bit - it gets somewhat technical.

So... the Linux client is now built against Ubuntu 18.04 and may no longer work on older distributions. For Ubuntu, you'll need to update your launcher using either APT or the Software Updater to play. For other Linux distributions, you'll need to manually install the new launcher or await an update to any third-party package you may be using. The old launcher may continue to work, but you will be missing many of the improvements.

Here's a list of the improvements you can look forward to in this version:

• General game optimisations
  
• Fixed an issue with audio crackling
  
• Fixed a potential crash on start-up
  
• Fixed incorrect icon on the game window
  
• Fixed an issue where the launcher window would not disappear once the game had started

Patch Notes

Prior to the penguin panic, our engine team had a chance to make a few important fixes:

• Smoothed the appearance of how objects fade out of view, when at the far edge of the view distance or close to the camera.
  
• Fps drops when scrolling through bank on mobile devices have been fixed.

Known Issues

With Today's changes we're also aware of some issues that have come with this. These can be found below:

• Minimap assets can take longer than expected to load in.
  
• Chance to crash when switching between mobile detail options.
  
• Game may hang when wifi gets disconnected.
  
• Possible crash on some devices on first boot-up.
  
• during Vindicta boss Vindicta & Gorvek's Dragonfire Wall will flicker but still cause damage.
  
• Your game can crash if you're running a Mac with OSx Mojave 10.14.1.

Did you experience any other bugs, please use the in-game bug report system for this.

Saturday, November 16th - 15:00 UTC (Game Time) - Evil Lucario Featured Stream

This week, our featured streamer is Evil Lucario! Join them for a 9h-long "money making challenge" with a twist: how much money can be made with just 4000% Telos claims? Plus he'll be able to answer your questions about PvM and the like!

This featured stream is also an opportunity to grab a LootScape! That's right, you can now receive in-game loot when you watch a RuneScape streamer. It works exactly the same way as our official streams, just watch Evil Lucario's stream on (his Twitch channel) and you'll receive the LootScape the following day.
