Last year saw a number of great content updates and improvements to the game, and this was just the beginning. We have some ambitious plans for 2012, as we continue to invest more than ever before in RuneScape to add even more exciting updates and improvements to the game.

From the 1st of February 2012, we will be increasing the RuneScape membership prices for new members. The new 1 month membership price will be $7.95 in the US, £4.95 in the UK and €6.95 in the euro zone.

In appreciation of our existing members, there will be no change whatsoever to anyone who is a member before the 1st February. The price you pay now will be locked in for as long as you stay a loyal member and we will even allow a seven day grace period should you forget to renew.

If you’re a free player who was thinking about becoming a member, now is the perfect opportunity. Not only will you be able to experience all the benefits RuneScape membership offers, but you will also be able to secure the current price of $5.95/£3.50/€5.95! Simply sign up for membership before Wednesday 1st February*.

We’re also going to be making some tweaks to some payment options in order to simplify choosing a payment option. To find out more, or if you have any questions, head over to the FAQ here.

Don’t forget to lock your subscription in before the 1st to guarantee access to the current prices!

Thanks,

Daniel Clough
Vice President of RuneScape

*These prices are for one month credit card membership and will vary by territory and payment method

Finally. Glad they are actually trying to match the price to what you guys are getting in great content and as advantages over free players. ;)

I sense sarcasm in your post (I could be wrong and end up making myself out as a total *** but whatever), which I find funny since you have never experienced p2p.

I for one think people complain way too much about Jagex's updates, whether they involve the game's content or the prices. If you think about it, the price they charge now or after this update is soo small for the amount of time you get to play. I would probably continue playing if they didn't update the game as much as they do now, because I enjoy playing it and I will continue to pay for something that entertains me, especially when it is less than 10 dollars for A WHOLE MONTH.

Regardless, I don't understand this move on Jagex's part. As current subscribers will not have to pay any more money, so in my mind this only discourages new subscriptions.

Cool I've only been a member from spring 2005 to sept 2007 and that was only because I got illegitimately banned. And then when they finally realized it, I was loyal enough to be a member from dec 2007 to some point in 2009 and I have been a member on and off since then. But after 7 days of no members I guess I'm not really that loyal. Oh ok.

but yeah duke juker, I don't really get why you complain so much about something that's 100% free. enjoy it while it's free.

I have played P2p before.

It also discourages people from ending their subscriptions for too long lest they have to pay a higher price if they come back. Also, it probably comes down to supply and demand. They may lose some subscriptions, but the ones they keep or gain balance any loss. They probably gain more profit overall for the price change.

I don't really get why you think I'm complaining since I play for free. I'm just saying it's great that Jagex is finally raising the membership subscription fee to match the value of the content they put out and all the advantages members have. Not complaining...more like applauding. And thank you...I will enjoy it while it's still free.

I don't get that either, that's like saying they should charge $9.99 for Arizona Green Tea Pomegranate because it's so good compared to tap water. NO. IT'S ALREADY TOO EXPENSIVE BECAUSE OF THE BOTTLE.
From a players prespective there is no reason you should want a price increase regardless of member status. If you do and are a member then I dunno why you aren't sponsoring Jagex. I dunno about F2p, really no reason to get mad at the value members get for their $ proportionate to the value f2p gets for their $0. You can't divide by zero.

1/5 Yeah! I love paying more money! Not much of a big deal, but I don't see what's really good about it for us... :|

More money they earn= better content we receive, less bots to control.

Potentially, but not a guarantee. Throwing more money at a problem does not necessarily solve it or lessen it always.
