18 September 2007 - The ZMI Altar

A forgotten and weakened altar has been unearthed north of the Observatory. With the ability to produce any type of rune, the altar holds undeniable power, but its discovery would be so much sweeter if the Zamorakian Magical Institute (ZMI) hadn't got there first.

The ZMI unearthed the Ourania Rune Altar near Scorpius's grave, but their attempts to repair it have gone a wee bit awry. Regardless of the altar's weakened state, the ZMI are guarding it fiercely to prevent any rival mages from stealing their source of runes.

This mysterious altar also seems to raise Runecrafting levels at exceptional rates - but at what cost? There seems to be something a mite unreliable about the runes the altar produces. They are all so very...random.

Whispers from the Zamorakians imply that more experienced runecrafters will receive better rewards from this chaotic altar, but there can be no predicting what it will produce next.

Will you dare risk the Zamorakian's wrath by runecrafting at the ZMI altar?

Summary
Where to start using the ZMI Altar:

North of the Observatory, by Scorpius's grave.
Requirements to use the ZMI Altar:

None
Requirements to use the lunar teleport to the ZMI Altar:

Lunar Diplomacy quest.
Level 71 Magic

In other news...

Players entering the TzHaar city will no longer receive minor injuries when holding Karamja rum.

It is now impossible to set-up deadfall traps if a player doesn't have the required level. Previously, a player could set up a deadfall trap without the required levels, but were unable to bait it to attract kebbits.

We've fixed several NPC chat-heads that weren't working. These NPCs should now appear a bit more social and lively when you're chatting to them!

Players can no longer resume where they left off in the knight waves event, after the King's Ransom quest. If a player had teleported away part-way through a fight, the player could then come back and continue the challenge instead of restarting this fun event.

Looks promising. I'll have to scope it out.

And one thing about the article..

Quote:
The thing about this altar the Zamorakians are so enamoured with is that it can craft pure essence (and only pure essence) into ANY rune, even those above your current Runecrafting level.

and it shows bloods. Bloodcrafting maybe?

hmm I don't know what to think, we don't really need this in runescape but they could've at least made it harder to get to like put more high levels in..for the bank you could just use airs or someother cheap rune to pay to use it and for the *maybe* bloodcrafting you'd probably get 1 inventory crafted for every like 100 trips..

I need to know a little more about it tbh. is it always double experience? is it faster than normal runerafting? What's the pattern of the type of runes you create?

I guess I'll have to wait afew days though.

I've done a couple of trips. The runes you get back is totally random. But I usually get about 5 law, 5 nats, 8 astral, 3 death. the rest are air, water, etc. etc.

You always get double exp. And yes you can craft bloodrunes with this altar. Though if you can't do it yet you've less chance to get blood.

You get an average of 16-17 exp for each pure essence. Compared to the 9 exp from nature runes: this altar is good if you don't care about not making money.

So, would you say this is a better route to train runecrafting than the abbyse?

Baring in mind I've not trained rc'ing in yonks and haven't tried this, so try to be simple with me. :P

You can get more exp an hour. Abbys is like 15k an hour? and this can get up to 25-30k an hour I think.

3/5 It's not too great. It's good that they made an rc update, but it's not exactly a great one. Better xp at least. :D

If you want to make money while you do it, stick with abyssing nats. If you just want xp, then do this new altar.

World 16 Air Crafter for life..

It seems very interesting and I'm pleased that Jagex had looked into a skill that hasn't been touched in ages, besides the new runes you could runecraft. I like the creativity they added to this skill to spice it up considering it's a very boring skill to many. I'm not a big fan of walking. That's why i am relying on the runners in world 16, which gives me 20-25k xp an hour (depending on the flow of the runners), in which I determined through a few time trial experiments.

I like the random aspect of it. Kind of nice getting a variety each trip than tons of one. Didn't get very many considering the 20 price to access the bank but that might pay off at higher levels. I like it.

From what I've heard, lots of people either do dueling ring-lunar teleport or bring low-end runes from their bank to pay with.
