runescape.com wrote:
During the great god wars, many smaller battles were fought between the followers of different deities. Sometimes these battles were fought for strategic advantage, many for items of power and others due to age-old enmities. One battle was fought over the possession of an extremely powerful weapon: the godsword.

History has it that the aviantese were protectors of the godsword and, when attacked by followers of Zamorak, several other gods came to their aid; fighting to stop the sword falling into the hands of the one they call the Usurper. The followers of Armadyl, Bandos and Saradomin struggled against an army of Zamorakians and, during this battle, the sword became shattered. Both sides cast powerful spells, attempting to destroy their enemies and freeze them into solid statues of ice. Now, after aeons have passed, the path is clear to explore these caves, but beware: the denizens of the caves are thawing out!

Any adventurer brave, strong or foolish enough can explore the caves, finding rich rewards for their efforts. Aside from the godsword - a two-handed weapon that allows you to change the hilt once it has been reforged, using a variety of special attacks - there is a new set of melee armour, a level 70 Ranged and a combination battlestaff for mages. It is also rumoured that one of the new Slayer creatures in the dungeon may be in possession of a pair of dragon boots!

The dungeon complex itself covers four mapsquares and contains a new race, four boss-monsters, new Slayer creatures and a host of old enemies for you to fight. Keep in mind that these creatures hark back to a different, harsher time when only the fittest survived. Expect, then, to find that your adversaries are slightly more powerful than their modern-day counterparts!

In other news...

The introductory offer that Thessalia, Reinald and the Hairdresser were giving to players for changing their clothing and hairstyles has ended. While they love doing what they do and are happy to assist in your fashion needs, they still need to earn some money!

We've removed the obstruction from Guthix's eye, so any tears shed in the Tears of Guthix minigame will be vivid colours once more, instead of the grey they've been for the last few weeks.

Trouble has been averted in the Trouble Brewing minigame. Players can no longer trade torches with each other in this game. This was making the sabotage of the bamboo pipes, water pump and boiler easier than intended. Rest assured, you can still set fire to all of these to slow the progress of the other team.

We've also fixed a minor issue with the various chat icons at the bottom of the screen. They should update correctly when you have read the messages in your 'All' channel.

Looks incredible! Can't wait to give it a go!

Easy 5/5, Great Job Jagex, probably the best update this year.

Definately sounds interesting. The Godsword seems a little overpowered however.

nonono. It's a great update, one of the best in a long time, but it's nowhere near perfect.

Slayer has become a *****. All I'm getting for tasks are Spiritual Warriors, Suqahs or Spiritual Mages. Not only are there very few of these monsters, but there's a lot of other monsters around, attacking with all forms, players trying to kill your monsters and it's in the middle of nowhere. :(

Dragon Boots are fairly common, like Rune Boots I presume. It's cool, but the price of rune boots is going to drop and I don't see myself going to the mages very often.

It's a brilliant dungeon - very fun. I think it was tactless to put 3 slayer monsters in such a dangerous place, and make them a common slayer task.

I'm giving this update a 4/5 or a 7/10. Nice high level update, but a little irritating for "teh hardcore slayah".

I'm having the same experience Anubis is having. I've only had one task since this update, and it is Spiritual Mages. I haven't journeyed down there yet as I'm having issues with java (maybe). From what I can see on YouTube, the place is overcrowded with every monster being teamed the second someone begins to attack it. There are tons of people down there hunting for good items, but there are quite a few players down there with one or two items hoping to steal a kill.

I gave the update a 4/5, as it seems something that will stay around for quite a while. If level 120+'s don't have everything mastered the first day, it's probably going to stay a while. The lower level things are dropping whatever they do, and prices are reflecthing that. Dragon boots are down to 1M today (the morning after this came out) after being 4-5M the first day. I would not doubt these will become a new common item that will replace the trusty set of Rune Boots in many people's wardrobes.

I won't write an essay about it, but this update is atlast something high levelled fellows wanted, it's hard and resembles WoW raid (50+ people in the general oom =D)
5/5, but it has few flaws, like you can get obliterated too quickly if you go to a wrong area.

I tried to enter it yesterday. Brrr....
I dressed in my best outfit, took whip, crystal bow, a lot of food and ventured down to the dungeon. Well...

Immediately after the landing I was attacked by a Spiritual Knight (130+ or something like that). I tried to hit him, but was getting a message that my Slayer level is not enough (and I am 75!!!!). While I was trying to think what to do about it, something started to shoot at me. I don't even know what was it... All my stats dropped to 40th-50th and I started to get quick 10-15 hits from this shooter and the knight. Within 2-3 seconds I lost all my hitpoints but fortunately was able to click on camelot teletab and teleported out with 3 HP left... I haven't been so close to dying for a long time. Funny, it all happened just within a few seconds, I didn't even have time to understand what was going on or eat food...

So yeah, welcome to the new dungeon.

P.S. I heard that wearing pieces of armor of different gods allows you not to be attacked there, so I'll try to find some and see if it helps...

The update is great for a high-level training area, but I do agree with the sentiment that putting slayer monsters in this place, a multi-combat area, may not have been very wise.

My first task after visiting the new dungeon was spiritual mages as well, but not since, and I have done 10 or so tasks after that.

There are places in the new dungeon to "slay" the new monsters with relatively little interference from other monsters (the wearwolf comes to mind) as these are usually involved with the other npc's. If you wear the correct emblem for the respective part of the dungeon, you can slay in relative isolation.

I give this update 9 of 10. It is meant for high levels and I believe it succeeded.

I wonder what would happen if you wore something like a Zamorak Full Helm, Guthix Platebody, and Saradomin Platelegs. Do you think that would make much of a difference? I've never been down there personally because I'm only level 88 currently. Kind of afraid to venture down there givin all the little horrors I've heard about the place.

I do like how they made the Dragon boots drop not extremely rare. Dragon items should never be worth 40M+.

5/5

From what I understand Guthix won't do you any good, as this god did not participate in the war. You get the best protection from having at least one god item related to Zamorak, Saradomin, Bandos and Armadyl. Holy/Unholy symbols and prayer books for Zamorak and Saradomin would do just fine (related armor too), but there are no much choices for Bandos and Armadyl. Armor obtained from the new dungeon is very expensive and I am not sure whether Armadyl amulet has an effect there (Has to try and see).

It's an okay update, but when I clicked the god wars part on the Knmowlage base, it showed a guy in Torag's and he had what I would immagine Barrows Boots on, are there Barrows boots invented now?
