Playing Runescape for the first time. Take Two

Now some of you may remember me, some of you may not. I pop my head in here once in a while.

I discovered Runescape back in fourth grade. I loved it. It was a whole new adventure. It was magical. My friends can I could play with each other and discuss the new and best items. I was obsessed. 2004 was an amazing time to be a child and be on runescape.

I stopped playing Runescape back in about 2011-2012 (right before EOC came out) I played a little of Old School Runescape when that came out.

Now. Two and a half years later I am interested again. I am interested to see what has changed.

But most of all, I am interested to see what a player would see if they were to sign up on runescape.com for the first time. What wold their impressions be.

I am going to attempt to document my day to day reactions to this game. I am going to make a whole new account. I am going to attempt to play as much as my free times allows.
But most importantly, I am going to play with a objective mindset. I am going to leave my prejudges about this game at the door and go into this like I am discovering a new game for the first time.

I hope you guys (or Jagex) can take something away from this. I hope it gives a little incite on the gamers who don't play.

So as for now... I am headed off to runescape.com to create an account. I will be documenting my thoughts the entire time and I will attempt to preserve them in a concise manner.

The Sign Up:
I was greeted with a large ad for the game when I went to runescape.com. Displaying itself as "The Best RPG Ever Made* " Interesting.
I clicked play now. There was an option to log in with Facebook or Google Plus. Strange for a game like this.
I chose to create an account with my email. I typed in my email, created a password, and typed in my age...... And that is is..... No password confirmation? Surprisingly easy.

This then brought me to a download page. Web biased game?
Installation was easy and fast.

Character creation was simplistic. Not much too it, but not annoyed by that. Clothing options are fantastic.

You see, just by missing the last few years, it has become a completely different game. I do look forward to seeing this happen; I feel like I have been around too much to ever be able to have a "starting fresh" feeling.

Welcome back :) . Most newer players do not stick around mainly because a large majority of the community is a decade ahead.

Very true, it must be daunting to see how far you have to go to catch up to other players. I felt like that when I joined and the game had only being going a couple of years. And I still find it daunting thinking about how on earth I will ever get a billion GP just to get one of the best weapons in the game.

I was the opposite. I looked at those maxed players with Torva (best armour at the time) and such, and thought, "how awesome it is going to be to work toward being able to have that." It gave me a goal in mind to aim toward. What I love about this game, is the fact that you don't have to rush through everything and get to maxed before the game actually opens up. There is so much to do for each level. The only thing I see as missing is combat weapons and armour between 75-85. Other than that, I feel a new player, if guided properly, would enjoy it more than certain other games. There is such a wide variety of content for the newer player to train on and play. I do feel that we "older" players can sometimes get a little jaded in our opinions because we remember what the "good old days" was like. Anyway, welcome back, and I do hope you enjoy your time on the game :)

I think this is a problem with many games that have been around for such a long time. New players come into the game, and are simply discouraged when they find out how much time it is going to take to even catch up to something like that.

My comment was made for those players whom seek true competition -- Yes :P.

For players like you, Pyrnassius, whom do just the opposite.. that is an admirable game-play to uphold.

Cool stuff. I recently saw a video on YouTube by the Wilderness Guardians about a similar idea. I hope to check in and get and update sometime soon :)

Sorry for the delay guys. I forgot that Runescape doesn't like my computer. Working on fixing it now
