I've heard from a few players about a player moderator application scam going around. You probably already know all of this but it's worth repeating.

  • There is no application to fill out to become a player moderator. I don't know the process Jagex uses to select their moderators but they'll offer the position to you outright. There won't be an application to fill out to see if you qualify.
  • If Jagex does invite you to be a player moderator it will be through the Runescape message box you see when you log in. They won't send it to your email account. They won't send it as a private message in-game.
  • If you get a private message directing you to a website please report it immediately. You might be wise to their wily tactics but there are plenty of other players that might fall victim to it.

Not really a new scam though... Since some of the fansites databased were hacked I get one or two a week offering extra loyalty points, player moderator, unique game-card items, telling me my account is for sale or that I have recieved an infraction etc. They are all bogus and I always ensure that I report the phishing scam to google, then contact the abuse depertmants of both the hosting company the email was sent via, the hosting company the phishing scam is located on and the domain registrar also. Godaddy are quite willing to take domains off its members if they are proven to be abusing their ToS.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is. ;)

No, not a new scam but its one that seems to be really active right now. The players I talked to were dubious but I could tell that they were interested.
