i was just reading the behind the scenes for august, and saw the new quest, so i decided to read the article about it.....once you complete it, you can use some sort of teleportation system to barrows?!?!? once again, jagex is catering to the children and little kids of runescape, i bet you they got a bunch of people complaining on the rants forum that it was too hard to get to barrows, so they're adding this. i mean one thing i am glad about is that it has quite high requirements so it wont be everyone who gets the teleport, what do you guys think about the update?

76 Woodcutting
70 Fletching
67 Slayer
64 Crafting
63 Farming
63 Agility
Legacy of Seergaze
Legends’ Quest
those are the requirements if anyone's wondering

I think it's fair to reward people who do quests, especially sticking with storylines like the Myreque. Last I checked there aren't too many small children with large amounts of quest points. I certainly didn't. It's definitely not the same thing as giving the community a free teleport to a hard-to-reach location. If you're going to say that quest rewards make the game easier, you'd have to use every single quest that gives a useful reward as an example.

you do have a point there, i also started thinking it may help me out in a way because, easier transport to barrows, more barrows equipment coming in, barrows prices go down, i get cheaper equipment :)

The reward of a new teleport to a difficult-to-get-to-place is a good one, but I agree it should be hard to get. Jagex is making the game a lot easier to play, month after month. I don't particularly feel there is a need to make it easier. I love a challenge.

same with me, challenges are what make games fun, thats why i love the puzzles that they put in quests

It's a good thing because they reward you with improved efficiency to an old minigame rather than adding a new minigame that no one will do. It's not really like (or doesn't seem to me) that they were like, "Ok, Barrows is too hard to get to so we'll make it easier for everyone". More like, "Ok, Barrows is a popular minigame lets create a reward that gives even more incentive to play it."

Exactly. That's probably the reasoning behind the minigames update from Behind the Scenes, too. I'd probably do some Barrows and other activities with this update and if the reward improvements are good. We need more updates like this and quests instead of a bunch of new content of debatable quality.

As I interpret it, it's an incentive to do the quest more than it's an incentive to play a minigame that's already very popular.

Really? I think that's a great update. Dunno what it'll do to the prices but who cares that was the worst part of barrows trying to get there. It's just a shame it takes them years to correct there flaws.

Most good game designers try to incentivise as many different types of content as possible to encourage players to try everything. The human brain craves variety, even if the people grinding for 200m xp in a skill don't realise it on a conscious level. By putting a must-have item behind a series of quest barriers, Jagex is encouraging players to train their skills and complete the quests. Even if the players don't think they're enjoying the quests themselves, (although I'm sure a good number of players will do), they're experiencing a greater variety in gameplay than they would do if this goal hadn't been introduced. Also, if you're on the design team for a piece of content which only a relatively small portion of the player base is currently able to see, I'm sure you'd want to encourage as many of them as possible to try it.

On another note, power creep is a natural phenomenon in MMORPGs. Jagex has done well to keep things as balanced as they are after 10 years. (Just look at the amount of redundant content in WoW due to power creep.)

I've needed this for a long time haha. Unfortunately I lack the slayer and farming req., and I can nvr find a legends quest partner... (I think it's legends that you need a partner)
