Post subject:  Detecting RS Scam Emails

Ok, so we all know that Jagex says they will never contact anyone by email right? So if you get anything claiming to be from Jagex, ignore it. Today one of these got into my inbox and now I am going to prove that it's a fake. 8)

First when loooking at the email when it appears it looks like this and looks authentic:

Here is what the body of the email looked like:

To see where the link truly lead i examined the source of the email. You can do this by right clicking and go view source.
Here is what it is:

I have highlighted the link to show that you will infact not be redirected to that runescape.com address. That is a basic HTML link. If you want to stop these kinds of things from happening I recomend turning HTML email OFF it is more secure and such but you will lose all the fancy colors and images of emails. Might be worth it to be safe...

Finally I show that the email is not from a jagex mail server. It is from somwhere else:

It was sent by a secure.jhosts.com address. Therefor this is a fake email. I did not reply to it and if anyone gets one of tehse please follow these same steps.

Of course it gets deleted and ignored. Bad Scammers [-X

I got an email claiming to be from a clothes shop the other day - I immediately knew it was fake because for a starter it was from a Hotmail email address :?

Also when I looked more closely at they link it went somewhere completely different.
