I was thinking about this earlier,I think there should be an off/on switch for it,and if people find the swearing really offensive(which I usually do)they can report. ![]() |

Anyone 17+ should be allowed to turn curse filtering on/off in my opinion. Most of them are mature enough to handle it. |

I believe that A. There should be a switch. B. There should be a limit of 18+, but to turn this on you would have to go through the website and edit the account information. C. They are giving enough leeway right now so really just settle down. P.S. Not to be annoying but you spelled swearing, and many other words wrong. ![]() |

Why should they allow swearing? What would swearing add to the game? Nothing good, that's for sure. Not like I give a ****, but honestly. I don't think allowing swearing is necessary or helpful. People would be much more trollish and abusive if swearing were allowed and I think that if you asked the majority of people on Runescape, they would probably agree. If you put it to a vote, more people would either say they don't care/wouldn't mind or that they wouldn't want it. I probably fit in the "I don't care" category, but I like playing with limited swearing. It makes the game enjoyable and I don't have to worry about someone calling me a ***** *** ****** ****ing *****. Those are all asterisks, btw. You can fill in the words. |

Swearing doesn't bother me nor would it if they allowed it. I would be concerned about the immature kids going off and abusing it though. I think the system is good how it is now. |

It would be only workable if there was a server for just people of age. But then again people could lie about their age. And even if there was an 18/17+ server, it probably would be filled with a lot worse things than swearing. Either way, I don't think that they will ever change the system. |

Seems to me swearing in a 'generational' thing. Most of you are probably sick of parents and grandparents saying 'In my day ..................' but it is true. When I was in my teens I didn't swear, some my peers did, but not where an adult could hear them; most of our parents swore a bit but quite mildly, and told off any 'child' (their own or neigbours' or even stranger kids) if they swore. You didn't hear it on the radio or films or in songs. My children are now in their 40's. Their father and I did not swear (no religious thing, we just chose not to) When the kids came home from school and tried out some choice language they had learnt, we explained there were a lot more interesting ways to describe things than 'lazy' swearing, be inventive without swearing. Did they swear, do they? Yes, I know they do but still not in my hearing. I am not perfet; having said I do not swear I do mutter occasionally under my breath, usually when I have done something stupid on the computer. I certainly swore when a criminally careless driver wrote off my 33 yr old nephew by his dangerous overtaking; I swore 15 mths later when the driver got let off with the court equivalent if a 'smack on the wrist' I don't come from some fancy background, but from plain working stock. My father was military, so I guess I heard everything there is to hear. I worked in places with mainly a male workforce. Sometimes I would go into a workplace and lots of people swore. I didn't, but also I never challenged them either. Strangely after a short time the swearing reduced. So when did it become acceptable to swear in public? Do you swear at school, in the classroom in hearing of your teachers, do you swear at home, in crowded bus or train? If not, why swear on RS? Do you do it because all your mates do it? Does it make you feel stronger, more adult? Take a step away and ask yourself why you swear, does it actually do any good? Finally, apart from being against rules, RS is a PUBLIC place, people from all countries, all ages, all walks of life. Unless you are in PM or clanchat you are in PUBLIC. Think about it, it takes longer to type swearwords than it does to think them. You have to deliberatley work out something to get past the censor. Why? LOL: sermon over and I guess this might stop the thread in its tracks. When I let go it usually does Sad ![]() |

Swearing in the classroom is acceptable depending the context :S I am fine with it being censored except, even if there were efforts to take a lot out of the censor list (was there? I can't remember), there are way too many things censored on rs. If it was only simple things like **** and **** etc that were censored I wouldn't mind it but I don't see why things like homophobic etc should be. At least when there is "****" you can be like oh I am pretty sure what goes in there, but when it is like "I'm tired of your *************!" you are like "...my what?" |

It's fine how it is, there's no reason to change how it is, it's not really needed and the asterisk'd words are fine as they are. |

I think the rules on language in RuneScape are far to strict, and not only on swearing. "You must not use any language that could be considered offensive, racist, obscene or otherwise inappropriate. This includes swearing. You should not create an account with an offensive or inappropriate username." What could be considered offensive, obscene or inappropriate by some people may not by others. I consider myself very open-minded when it comes to this sort of thing- it would take something pretty bad for me to find it offensive. On the other hand, we're all different. Which is why this rule needs changing. I thin several people have already suggested an optional language filter, and I think this would work. There is no need to filter out so strictly the list of words that are currently- even the most naive of people would struggle to find some of it offensive. So for a start the current filter needs to be revised, which would primarily involve taking dozens of words out of it. But then an option to turn the filter on or off needs to be implemented. I'd also suggest that even of those people who turn the filter off, there are some select few words that even they wouldn't want to see. These should probably be blocked totally from everyone. |

I really don't see any reason to have foul language in a game like this. I think that it would be reasonable to allow certain words, but they currently allow most of those. I don't see any reason to allow anything further. |

Things are fine how they are but I have to agree with Aquw. The rules are really strict. I was really surprised when they removed words like "***", "screw you", "telephone", from the filter. The rules are so strict that sometimes Jagex can't understand what's joke or what's serious. They just go trigger happy with the mute button. One recent example is Jose for saying "Jew". ![]() |

If there should be any language regulation at all, it should be limited to just a few words. When writing in Danish, half the text ends up like ******** which is both annoying and pointless. |

It's the 12 year olds and trolls that will abuse it that makes me object to it. |
