Post subject:  Bonus XP Weekend Error
If anyone saw the graph and formula posted on the dev blog, and calculated in detail by buying lots of stuff for a certain level, then unfortunatly you will not reach that level, due to a maths error in the jagex office. I was one of the people who realised this when i noticed, that after the first 15 minute change, it always went in the sequence of going down by 0.2x every 45minutes, i then caluculated it would only take 5:31minutes for it to fall to 1.1x. I reported this to jagex with a rant forum (that is not hidden) and a jagex mod replied appologising. He updated the dev blog, deleted the graph and made a new thread (http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/f ... ,608,60568453,goto,1). What are everyones thoughts on this personally I am annoyed by this because I know alot of friends that spent time calculating how many items they need to but for a certain level, and also quite miffed that they are giving us less xp than they promissed.

My Data: I started none stop from 12 noon gmt (its release)
2.7x Start
2.5x 0:16
2.3x 1:01
2.1x 1:46
1.9x 2:31 (time i made the forum on rs website)
1.7x 3:16
1.5x 4:01
1.4x 4:46 (due to update in the post they have now slowed it out after 1.4 to produce a curve)
1.3x 5:31
1.2x 6:16
1.1x 7:01 Changing from 5:31 my first exismate to 7:01 giveing u an extra 1hr30mins
I got 1.1x at 7:03pm 2mins after the minimum time to get 1.1x
EDIT EDIT: I also realised that I dont normally count Friday as the weekend since it was an inset day, so basically i used my double xp up before the weekend, so ironically I dont have a double xp weekend, only a 1.1x or 10% extra xp weekend

stupid system anyway. just go x2 the full weekend then back to x1. why overcomplicate it? -_-

very few people actually calculate to get just enough xp to get to their goal >.< its bonus xp weekend.. dont overcomplicate it nat.

well, if it was 2x xp the whole weekend, people would really easily no-life a couple of skills, driving the price of certain items waaaaay up and some waaaaaay down. Plus, you'd have some people leapfrogging on the highscores really quickly. a bonus xp weekend with no limit for how long you get the bonus xp for would have huge economic effects on the price of just about everything...

highscores don't really matter. there's already people with 200 mill in almost every skill. if people really want to have an ego trip over getting a 99, let them. rohan, pw, aion, the other three mmorpgs i've played, all just do double. in rohan and pwi, they're massive grinds and its nothing to them, but in aion you could level 1-50 if you no lifed a whole double exp weekend and had it planned out nicely. no problem. you just need to look at the big picture. think of what skills you can actually make a good dent in with 1 weekend of effort. hunter? its a cash skill, people wont' stop at 99, they'll stop when they get however many chinchompas they want. mining? all people do is powermine anyway, no money in it. with the exception of italy4lyfe (italy4nolifemining) and a few others like him who mine a rock actually worth something, nobody gets anything out of double exp mining except carpel tunnel. cooking? fletching? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH. construction? summoning? GOOD. they're money sinks. let people get a discount for it. prayer? its barely worth it passed 70 anyway.

making it double for a whole weekend effects so little in the grand scheme of things. if anything it would get them more money, as people would be morelikely to subscribe to members for a full weekend of easy grinding than they would be for 6 hours of diminishing returns before it gets close enough to 1x to make no major gains.

TL;DR: dont' be so fussy, in the grand scheme of things limited increased exp doesn't' get you anything.

Jagex seems to keep spewing out mistakes lately.

I'm not going to sit here and rant like some of the lunatics on this thread but I would like to make a comment regarding all of this.

It's not that I am upset that we don't get enough FREE xp. I'll take what I can get. I think the point that some people (including myself) are trying to make is, it's Jagex's job to produce quality content and updates. They cranked out the Living Rock Caverns. That was a massive update that was one of the best yet. Almost NO problems with it. Yet, they didn't anticipate a simple rounding issue with a formula? It almost seems like they came up with a formula, stored it away in a folder, yanked it out and threw it into the game engine this morning and then realized and said "oh whups :$ Guess we should have tested it first."

I don't think this would have happened, had they ran some testing.

Everyone does make mistakes and it's fine. I'm not complaining about that. I just think that little mistakes shouldn't be made such as this. Just a little friendly feedback. I'm not canceling my membership or going to post in all caps for the next 5 pages. :P

Obviously programmers and tech people don't make good mathematicians. xD Very good catch with the calculations. They definitely didn't put enough thought into the calculations and how it would affect Runescape and players as a whole. They knew what they wanted to do, but messed up in bringing it into fruition. Anyways, I agree they shouldn't complicate it and just make it x2 for a certain amount of time and not fiddle with it anymore than that. :? K.I.S.S. for Jagex (Keep It Simple Stupid)
