With the recent update, Jagex has taken it upon themselves to force anyone with a common password to change. My guess as to the reasoning behind this is that the people who complain the most about being 'hacked' are the ones who had very simple passwords, something like Dragon, Runescape, password, something, etc. Simply by forcing people to alter their passwords to something more complex, ideally with numbers and letters (I don't think they support other characters), the difficulty of user's passwords increases. Has anyone had their account locked, or otherwise suspended till a password change has been made? Please do not say what you changed it to, obviously, but why did you have your password as something so simple? Though this goes without saying, don't say what your password WAS if you feel your use of it somewhere else is needed. |

I've never been hacked. I don't understand how people manage to get hacked without having passwords like "cheese" or "emanresu". If you're stupid enough to have a common password; then a lesson in account security via being hacked is probably the best remedy. Though Jagex's profit may not benefit from such things. |

My password is one word, no numbers, 8 letters long. Jagex haven't forced me to change it... Seriously, there's a 99.99% chance that someone would guess my password. And if someone is smart enough to guess it, they can have the account and a cookie. |

I've always used the same 20 character string of random letters and numbers for my RuneScape password (after I started to really care about my account). For my emails and other important accounts, I use a shortened version of the same password. For anything else not extremely important, I use a certain pattern on the number pad that I've memorised how to type but couldn't tell you the digits. ![]() |

I have 2 fairly simple passwords on 2 FTP accounts but the words are nothing to do with Runescape and they have never been hacked. With this update I shall have to go and see if they have been tagged by Jagex. For secure passwords I use a formula of letters and numbers that are significant to me but no-one else. |

If you don't use a strong password than you probably are going to get hacked. I for one, have never been hacked and use a very long and strong password. BunnyMacaroni |

i was actually laughing at some of the responses that news post got in the official forums, about jagex being able to see they passwords now and junk (as if the older update to not let you type out your password anymore wasn't a big enough tip to that). i woulda died of laughter if they had told me to change mine or any other pmods to change theirs. very simple passwords along with using 3rd party software are probably the two biggest reasons players get hacked in all seriousness. |

My password isnt all that easy to guess so I had no need to change it. I lol @ anyone who is stupid enough to use a common word as a password. |

My password is part of a password found in a book I listened to one time on a CD set. I don't think it was any meaning behind it, but you would have to know the password out of the book to figure it out. And no, I won't tell you the book or the author. |

I laugh at the people who are actually stupid enough to have ******* passwords to a game that they treat as allmighty, and then they expect sympathy from Jagex when they're hacked. |

I did get my account locked once. This was in October 2008. I am guessing the hacker had all my passwords so it did not lock my MAIN account, but my small noob account was locked. (still havent gotten it back.) My password is pretty strong, I think. |
