Ok, so I've been thinking recently about 99's, and I noticed that a lot of players like to brag about how much better they are at the game because of their total level. As we all know, this can be easily raised with simple and non-complicated skills such as cooking and fletching. In my opinion, for example, a player with 80 summoning is a "better" player than one with 99 cooking or fletching etc. While thinking about this, I started to develop a formula that would recalculate a total level and have it reflect upon the difficulty of the skills rather than just straight numbers. In other words, a maxed out cooking level would be somewhat even with a mid level construction or runecrafting. I did some research and found the amount of people that have 99's in each skill. (Yes I could be more accurate with times and cost, but this is just a rough idea and I think this way pretty much captures the main idea.) Basically what you do is take each of your skills and multiply your level by the "difficulty rank". We'll call that total for each skill your "skill value". Once you find all of your skill values, you add them all up and divide by 24. The scale is as follows: (All 1's and 10 HP) = 14.375 (All 99's) = 1237.5 Not a very uniform scale, but like I said its just a rough idea. The difficulty ranks are based on the number of people who have 99. (24-Least People - 1-Most People) Spoiler for Difficulty Ranks:
Yes I realize this will take a bit of time, but keep in mind I just kinda came up with this, and its past 3AM so I'll probably improve on it more. Actually, I think I'm going to code a program to do all this for me, but that's another day.

1,039.917 (2,018) I don't like that summoning is highest on the list simply because it's the newest skill. I'm very confident that it will pass skills like farming and runecrafting in 99's if you give it enough time. Also, my 94 strength took a long time to get. It shouldn't count for 1/24 of my summoning level ![]() |

yeah rc or farming should be the highest...i think herb should be a little lower seeing how its just one of those skills that if you have money you can get 99 in it strength shouldnt be #1 it should be #3 and cooking and fletchs hould be in front of it |

758.75 (1640) sigh .. I always did skills that were easier to get capes in. Every skill has a process that's easy enough to get, some easier than others. I suppose if I really want 99 fletching I should buy all the logs like everyone else does instead of slowly cut magics - all the work wont matter since it's so widespread anyway, and the cash is nice but the skill should come first ... makes me think I'm getting another 'nooby' cape. |

Figuring strengths of a skill ranking (number of players having 99 in a skill) is very skewed as construction is a skill that is totally based on how much gp one is able to or willing to spend developing that skill. This has no bearing on difficulty/complexity of completing the tasks to gain levels in that skill. Summoning is not far behind construction on being a money pit. I am not sure you will be able to accurately come up with a table that truly can give true weight to the difficulty it takes to get each skill. Good luck to you, but total levels mean nothing in this game, the same as what it means to get from 126 combat to 138. The combat number by itself since summoning was released no longer reflects on the ability of a character to survive in combat. Total levels usually only matter to those that seem to think it adds chest hair. |

I agree, and as I stated before this is not very accurate. I did come up with this concept at 3 in the morning so basically I'm just throwing the idea out there. I'm going through multiple formulas to try and calculate proper numbers. I think I'm going to leave cost of the skill out of the calculations though because to get money you usually have to skill to get it, thus contributing to your level. If money was not a factor summoning could easily be as fast if not quicker than cooking. Being expensive is all part of the difficulty of the skill. Otherwise a construction skill cape would be seen as the equivalent of a cooking cape. |

900 (1754) This system certainly rewards those who work the harder skills. If it took difficulty into consideration it would be a fairer measure. Maybe something simple like whether the skill is easy, moderately difficult, hard to achieve. Easy are those that can be bought and for not too much money. Moderate are those that can be bought but are expensive. Difficult are those that can't be bought. cooking: (2*lvl) * 1 [easy] construction: (23*lvl) * 1.5 [moderate] runecrafting: (22*lvl) * 2 [difficult] This would also reward combat skills. They'd have a low skill value because of how common they are but it would also account for the work involved in getting there. |

958.7 against (1926) Doesn't look that bad. My construction pulled it up though. I'd like to see some more research done on this. It's pretty interesting. |

Excel Spreadsheet You can download that and enter in your own levels to have it calculated for you. I got 946 (originally 1898). This is an interesting idea but there's really no replacement for the total level as it is. It's just the sum of all of your levels, hence its name. |

funny idea. ended up with 1129.5 (2236) think i'd rather stick with the average lvl formula meself but roll with it. |

I like this idea ^^ although to improve it maybe there could be groupings for skills instead of a level for each one to reduce the spreading, such as melee stats, mage and range, expensive stats, cheap stats etc. 830.25 (1689) ![]() |
