Which leaves me in a bit of a dilemma. What's the point in being able to smith rune if I can't mine it?

Part of the bad side of mining is the fact all good training areas are PACKED with gold farmers, auto-ers and/or regular players trying to get a few coal during the minutes between the gold farmer's bank runs.
Another bad thing is that skill level doesn't make much of a difference when mining! Gold ore can take a second, or 5 minutes. It doesn't take 5 minutes per maple log, it shouldn't take 5 minutes per gold ore. :$
Ores weigh a lot, draining your energy, rocks are scattered about, and high level (mith and above) takes ages to respawn. The best experience for both smithing and mining is something a lv15 miner can do, which just decreases the possibility of finding an area where you can actually train!
And don't just just hate it, when you're trying to mine coal, and this particular rock is harder than the rest, and a guy at 31 mining one-hits the rock and gets the ore?

What can be done? Quite a bit in my eyes!

1) Pickaxes will gain the ability to be enhanced with diamond. Nothing else, just diamond. This can only be done by Nurmof, with 10 un/cut diamonds and 1.5 million cash. The new pickaxes will have an additional 20% success rate at mining a rock, after being enchanted with the appropriate spell.

2) A quest involving the end of the Red Axe storyline (lv85+, so no lv3 nubz) will open up a large mining area, containing three large pillars of ore. Coal, Mithril and Adamant. These rocks allow continuous mining (much like trees and essence) but degrade over time. A maximum of 100 ore can be mined from these rocks (to all players mining the rock) before they need to respawn which takes 1, 2 or 3 minutes respectively. These rocks give 25% less experience than mining a regular rock.

3) A dwarven achievement list of some sort will allow (with hard gloves) the use of a special furnace which requires 75% of the amount of coal needed to smelt bars. 2 for steel, 3 coal for mithril, 4 for adamant, 6 for rune. This area will not have a teleport function like the Shilo Village area.
These gloves at medium level and above will give an extra 10% experience boost to mining an ore.

There was a good spot at granites, before Jagex nerfed it. It used to mine at speed of iron, and give out about 2x exp of iron.

Ya, I hate mining. I haven't mined for at least a year. What I sometimes do instead is just fish and sell some raw sharks and then buy the ore 8)

Yeah, i cant stand mining. When i first starting my playing my buddy would buy a rune bar for 10k and make a pickaxe and sell it for 50k tho, so he made good money.

Yeah...

Drop mining Iron has never been a problem. Just pick an empty world and go to Varrock East Mines. With 60+ Agility, I'm never running out of energy, so that isn't a problem either.

Gold isn't a problem either. Karmaja and the Dwarven Gold Mine are usually empty for me. There's also Adamant Ores in the wilderness and on Crandor.

Sorry, I just don't see what all the fuss is about...

I have no problem with mining or smithing, but they do need an update of some sort.
