Last year, my younger brother(in 7th grade) played runescape for 4 hours a day, after school. For the first quarter, his grades averaged a 78, all-around. when my father literally ripped the router out of the wall when he got his report card, he couldn't use internet anymore, which means, no runescape. The next quarter, his grades improved to an 87 average, the next, a 92, and the final quarter, a 97! I was shocked at what a clicking game could do to your grades. If i would have done this, my grades would have been in the 98's for the year.
My point is, if you want a good collage, rip your router out of your computer...or quit runescape.

Have any of you retirees found any effect in your grades among quitting?

If this gets spammy move it to the sandbox.

You are seriously saying that internet will ruin our intelligence?

its only when people play runescape and ignore the things that are really important such as work, school etc. then its a problem

^ Thats the important point.

Runescape does not cause grades to slip, its not doing school work because of addiction. You have to make sure you dont let your schoolwork get behind.

For my grading scale, a 78 is nearly failing.

100-95 = A
88-94 = B
80-87 = C
76-79 = D
75-0 = F

RuneScape has not caused my grades to fall out of the 88-100 region for the over 2 years I've been regularly playing. It all depends on the person, if they want RS more than what actually matters in life then that's a problem and they need the router ripped out of the wall.

Seeing as you've provided an example (your brother), just look what his grades were when he was addicted. Lol.

Wow...high standards. I got a 70 average last year and I was proud of it lmao...

Anywho, Runescape really hasn't affected my grades in school(according to Bib I was stupid all along lawl :D) It's really just setting times to do homework and playing basically.

He asked me to buy him a blue party hat off Ebay for $300.99. Now hes asking my to help him make the football team.

And how is a 78 good? You get kicked out of the advanced classes with those grades.

just set rules for yourself ....

i took 4 pre-ap classes last year... stait 100's (i was a sophmore) i played wow half the year and went back to rs for half

and this year im in 2 pre-ap and 2 ap.. yes collage lvl classes... i still cant spell but im in ap english 3... i also am on depate team, and model un, im on Cross country and captain of the lacrosse team and get strait 100's (well this year prob 90-100's) AND I PLAY RS REGULARLY

you dont NEED to quit... you NEEED to set rules/manage your time... if u have a test... dont get that next fletching lvl (that can wait 2 days) go study for 2 hours then do your 2 hours of hw and maby play rs for 30 minits at 9 at night when chating on aim. or do 30 minits right after school and dont get back on that night unless you have all your homework assigned done (even if its not due for 2 or 3 more days) then study for a hour and get back on....

realy its all disaplin... how did i come to this idea of thining... well i kinda freshmen year would play rs for 3 hours then realize at 7 at night realize have home work / a test tomarow and ended up with a 3.0 gpa... with my pre-aps..... sooooooo dont let rs take over your life remember its a game it can wait to be played till the weekened.

last year, i played rs 2 hours a week and had 99's-100s, or atleast a medium A. when my parents made me retire, i dropped to 85's-95....
the reason is i was so bored that i couldn't remember anything, no matter how much i studied. if you don't overdo RS, you'll get past life in perfect condition.

I reckon playing RuneScape can make your grades go down, but it won't get you stupid. I mean, how can your Intelligence ''go down''? The only thing I can say is:

-RuneScape = No real mental effort
-No Real Mental Effort = Lazy Brain
-Lazy Brain = Lower grades.

OR

-RuneScape = Playing Instead of Studying
-Playing Instead of Studying = You won't learn a lot
-You won't learn a lot = Lower Grades.

Personally i have always between 90 and 99% (100% doesn't exist in my school, no work can really be perfect) and I play RS a lot, but I don't think RuneScape > School and Social Life.

What I meant was your Intelligence can't really go down, but your prefontal cortex (nerdy, I know) gets lazier when you don't train it, but you won't permanently get dumb if you play a videogame too much.

Tricks for training your prefontal cortex:

1. Eat breakfast every day which contains carbohydrates, they give you some energy for the day.
2. Reading Aloud helps a lot.
3. Head Count is really good too.
4. Calculations and Syllabe count (doing it as fast as possible) helps too.
5. In conclusion, anything that doesn't let your brain become a lazy chewing gum is OK :P

P.S: Sorry if my syntax and some of my vocabulary is not good, english isn't my first language  but I'm still trying to do my best ;)

Edit: I don't really think RuneScape is worse than any other addicting video game by the way.
