Merchanting Guide
Originally written by Millerandrew (Nerdjock) With special thanks to Sir Hasif for his Corrections, Maps, and Images, tate225 for transparentising the images, and Mole for Corrections. General Idea Of Merchanting: Merchanting is where you buy something for a small price and then sell it for a high price. You always want to buy an object at a F2P (Free to play) world and sell it at a member's (P2P) world or to someone who is buying for a good amount. The reason you want to buy at a F2P world is because these people normally are newbs therefore don't have a very good idea on what most items sell for. Below I will explain some ways to market. The merchant item is what you should buy and sell, the difficulty is how hard it is out of 5 stars, and the location is where you can find the most sellers/buyers. Merchant Item: Feathers Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty: ** Location to buy: Buy at the chicken pen near Lumbridge or just south of Varrock. Location Picture: ![]() Buying Price: 5 gp each. Selling Price: 14 gp each. What to do: Head to the chicken pen near Lumbridge in a F2P world with about 50k gold. Say "Buying all feathers 5 gp each." Many players that have been stockpiling feathers will come to you and trade. Buy all their feathers at 5 gp each. Once you run out of money you should have around 10k feathers. Congratulations you just did the hardest part of merchanting. Now try to sell them for 14 gp each. Once you sell them all you'll have 140k. As you can see merchanting is all about an efficient rate of money making. After about 1 hour of doing this I bet you could have 500k in your wallet. When you're selling your feathers you ALWAYS want to keep your price firm. If you don't keep your price firm you'll be considered a weak seller by many. Its alright to have a lot of feathers sitting in your bank for a while. Merchant Item: Rune Essence Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty:** Location to buy: Draynor Bank, or Varrock west bank Location Picture: ![]() Buying Price: 10 gp each Selling Price: 20 gp each What to do: Go to Draynor Bank or Varrock west bank on a populated world and bring 500k gp. Buy all the essence you can with this money. Once you run out of money you'll have around 50k rune essence. Now go to the official Runescape forum or a populated world and sell them for 20 gp each. _______________________________________________________________________ Merchant Item: Willow Logs Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty: ** Location to buy: Buy in Draynor bank in World 16. Location Picture: ![]() Buying Price: 20-25 gp each. Selling Price: 30-40 gp each. What to do: Go to a populated world and head to Draynor Bank (as shown in the picture) with about 150k gold. Say "Buying all willows 25 gp each." Many players who have been cutting willow logs will come trade with you. Once you run out of money you should have around 5-6k willow logs. Now either sell them on the official forums for 40 gp each or at Draynor bank for 35-40 gp each. Once you sell them all you'll have 175k - 240k _______________________________________________________________________ Merchant Item: Cow Hides Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty: **** Location to buy: Buy at Al Kharid bank in a populated F2P world Location Picture: ![]() Buying Price: 100 gp each. Selling Price: 170 gp each. What to do: Head to Al Kharid bank (in a populated F2P world) with 150k +. Now say, "buying cow hides 100 gp each", many people will trade with you. After a while you'll have 1500 cow hides. Now sell them at a P2P world or to a member buying for at least 160 per cow hide. You'll make around 75k from doing this. _______________________________________________________________________ Merchant Item: Bronze arrows Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty: ** Location to buy: Buy at any populated bank (I would prefer Varrock West bank World 1) Location Picture: ![]() _______________________________________________________________________ Buying Price: 10 gp each. Selling Price: 20-25 gp each to members. What to do: This is actually a very good market item. Many newb rangers will have a ton of arrows that they pick up or buy. Go to Varrock west bank or any bank that is populated in a populated (F2P) world and type "Buying bronze arrows 10 gp each!!!". Once you get about 20,000 of them (Yes, sounds like a lot but its only 200k to buy if you buy them for 10 gp each) then sell them to members for 20-25 gp each. _______________________________________________________________________ Merchant Item: Santa Hat Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty: **** Location to buy: You can buy on the official Runescape forum or in world 2 Falador Park if you are a member. If not go to Varrock west bank. Buying Price: 6 Million - 8 Million GP Selling Price: 7 Million - 11 Million GP (Yes I've seen some buy for 10 Million GP) What to do: Merchanting Santa Hats should only be done if you have 7 million + GP, in other words if you're poor you can't do this. First off, go to either the member's forum or Varrock west bank. Try to buy a Santa Hat for 6-8 Million GP, after you have one try to sell it from 7 - 11 Million GP on the forums, or at Varrock west bank. This is a GREAT merchant item because with just merchanting 1 item you can make millions of GP. However you may find that few people have a Santa Hat because they're very expensive and nearly extinct (That's why they are so expensive in the first place). _______________________________________________________________________ Merchant Item: Purple Party Hat Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty: ***** Location to buy: If you're a member buy on the forums, if not buy at Varrock west bank. (Same as Santa Hats) Buying Price: 70-80 Million GP Selling Price: 90-100 Million GP What to do: First of all, this is only for the very very rich people. However, if you do have this money then consider yourself very lucky because now you can start making 20 million GP in less then an hour. Which is by far the quickest money you can make. First, buy one from the forums or Varrock west bank for 70-80 Million GP. Now try to sell it in any of the locations you bought the party hat at. If you bought for 70 million, and sold it for 100 million, you just made your easiest 30 million GP. _______________________________________________________________________ Merchant Item: Blue Party Hat (The most expensive Item in the Game) Item Picture: ![]() Difficulty: ***** Location to buy: If you're a member buy on the forums, if not buy at Varrock west bank. Buying Price: 170-190 Million GP Selling Price: 190-220 Million GP What to do: Ok, first of all if you've gotten here then you can mark yourself as one of the richest players in Runescape, therefore allowing you to merchant the very best item in the game. The blue Party Hat (Blue Phat). It's so rare its said theres less then 50 in the whole game. Buy a blue party hat at any of the locations mentioned earlier for around 170-190 million GP. This may take a while as not many people are willing to sell, due to the fact that blue party hats are so rare. However, once you have obtained a blue party hat sell it for around 190-220 million GP. After this you may want to buy one to keep as they are so rare!!! I must say, if you've done this then you're a runescape Pro. _______________________________________________________________________ Merchanting Tips
1. Many merchanters find themselves switching worlds around every 5-10 minutes. This way you might find a buyer quicker than staying in the 1 world. 2. Normally you want to market less expensive items that are of good use to members like logs, feathers, coal, arrows, cow hides, etc. 3. WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS!!! Once you accept and the item window comes up don't be scared to check over it for about 10 seconds and make sure your getting what you want. Well I hope you liked my guide... |

The blue Party Hat (Blue Phat). It's so rare its said theres less then 50 in the whole game. Lol your joking right? I personally have 2, supposedly according to Tipit's interview with Zezima, he's got 2. So that means there is only 46 other people with them? Lol. If you look on the official forums there are ussually more than 35 people selling them at any given time plus about 3 or 4 in World 2. Most people buy them as a status item and not a merchanting item, so don't sell. Jagex realeased the number of phats in the game a while ago and I remember there being around 3k purple ones. Purple phats are about 1/3 the price of blues now so I am guessing there are around 800 - 1200 blue phats out there. Really......think about it.....if there were only 50 they would be over 800M each. I remember back a hundred years ago when the p hats came out and you would ussually find about 20 ppl a day wearing a blue. I dunno....thats my 2 cents worth. PS - I didn't buy my p hats now....I bought them for around 10k each when they came out. I just got back from a 3 year break from RS and am a mega-multi-billionare |
