Post subject:  How big is RuneScape world?
Ok, my friend said that if you compare rs world to real word that it's only like 15km wide and 11km long.
Now 1 walking square is 1m approx, because you make 1 step right? So is there anyone crazy enought to count them???

I'm guessing he means at it's current state... You could estimate the land-area using the worldmap. But that wouldn't include any dungeons or anything.

Think of it this way:
The universe. Ever expanding and always changed by gravity.
now think of the runescape world, and jagex as gravity. :wink:
Jagex is always changing it. if you have ever been to the end of the runescape map, you will see forever going blackness. The universe is constatly expanding past the timezero mark between nothingness, and the first atoms of the universe. The nothingness represents the blackness, and the first map ever on runescape is the center, jagex is just epanding around it. Do you see what I mean? If not please buy a huge metal pole and point it in the air while running across an open feild in a lightning storm. Just Kidding.

He means as is, I assume. I'd say the whole thing is about the size of a small country. If you assume that everything represents a much larger area, then I'd say a medium sized continent.

Thanks for theories, but assume, 1 walking square is 1 meter, and varrock is like 100 walking squares from west to east, that makes 100meters, quite small for a town, now how many walking squares do you pass from port phasmatis to poison waste? Or from Mage arena till Sophanem?multyply them and you have the area of it in m² (square meters) i assume it's not bigger than a medium size town

IE: Guild wars. It's so fricking huge, im still in ascalon after seering. O_o I do think jagex could make it alot bigger for the amount people that work on it. They try and make runescape the best thing around, i mean it has it's qualities but other than that it doesn't compare to other games. The only thing that's good about runescape is that there's skills other than melee and it's only $5 a month to play. With guild wars, it's like $50 to buy the game and then $20 to play the game. It's just really stupid.

Anyways back on subject. It's not a rumor that jagex has unlimited space, it's true they're the creators of the game, they can make it as big as the universe but they don't. I'd give it a few years before they start something completely new and runescape 3 comes out in a client then I'll start playing runescape again. :D

I'm sure you could use some advanced math formula to figure out the area, but thats beyond me. Runescape is made on computer software and such so it is easy for them to make the world bigger. They can keep making it bigger until they run out of hard drive space.
