Why can't you melt swords into bars and stuff it would be the opposite of smelting. For example: You are pking and you pk a rune platebody so you already have one but you would rather have say a rune hatchet and some rune bars (because your smithing is high enough) so you take the platebody to the furnace and you turn it into 5 rune bars. You take it to an anvil and make a rune hatchet. I know this might make it so you could gain exp faster but you could like I don't know NOT get any exp for melting and you could not melt something more then once. As in you can't make a rune platebody then melt it then make another one over and over.

Nah, that'd make it too easy to get rune items, all the prices would drop, and I wouldnt be able to sell rune daggers for 15k anymore :(

I think you misunderstand you MUST have the smithing lvl in order to melt the weapons like if you have 1 smithing you can not get a rune weapon and melt it.

well maybe.... but it depends on how it works... i mean, u could get well easy xp... just as long as u have a lot of tele grab runes, cos u could tele grab the iron stuff in varrok mueseum or wherever it is and keep on getting them for xp ppl would find a way to get armour and stuff easily and just get them "melt" them and smith them, would mean no1 would mine, because i think thats the most boring part of trying to smith.

that's a pretty stupid idea. So many people would get all the exp, and then smithing will be stuoid because everyone has 99 and rune would drop, no one will be happy, and it's all because of melting.

Even though it is fair I don't like the idea because, why couldn't you just sell the item for more than you would get melting it and buy the item you would like?

Well its good that you made it so that you cannot get one good item and just work smithing up off of it. The only bad thing would be the effect of this on the market. The market is already going kind of crazy, this would just make it even worse.

It could work but there should be a quest to learn this recycling technique and there will be a 50% loss of material rounded up.

good idea, but have it where you can melt it and get ____ bars (m) so you can't melt it again and there will be no confision andthey would be weeker because you melted them and they would be called ____ (m)

If you used a furnace for both smelting and melting then no. Because then all you would have to do is get one iron bar make it into a dagger then go over to furnace make it to a bar again so on and so forth.

It should require coal too. Half as much coal as would be needed to make the bars from ore.

I was just going to say that, a person could make a rune "----" and then melt it and re-smelt it. Unless they only got 1 bar per melt.
EDIT: The ability to not be able to melt something more than once is a bad idea because you could buy a large sum of weapons from people who tell you that they've never been melted and then you buy the items and find out they lied to you.
I would stick to the 1 bar per item melted.
(also, if this topic gets quite popular you should stick it up on RuneScape forums)
