Post subject:  Carpentry Rumors

I heard around July that there would be a carpentry skill coming around. I also heard that you would be able to buy houses in RuneScape. But I haven't heard any official information about this. Please tell me if this rumor is true?

Jagex has confirmed that there is going to be a carpentry skill and that there will be player owned houses. I am not sure of when this will be relased though.

They haven't explained that much detail yet. They might make it similar to farming in the way that you can only see your house. If they made land for every player then the world would be way to big. You might have to pay some for the property then you work on your carpentry level. As it gets higher you can make additions to your house.

Thats how I am thinking it is going to work.

I'm looking forward to Carpentry, seems as though a higher level in woodcutting and possibly fletching would go well with this. (if this is true then im gonna be no.1 :P)

But anyways, pohs arent too much of an excitement for me, and I am hoping that Carpentry is going to be a bit more exciting than faring. Although I'm lv50 in that I dont really enjoy it...

What kinds of things do you think we shall be making with carpentry? Wooden Spoons? Chopsticks? heh.

Maybe it will most pobably be things to do with Pohs, or thing to put in them. like Chairs, Doors, and I am 99% certain we will be making planks. =)

I don't think Carpentry would be a new skill. Maybe an addition to crafting. Just like summoning will be an addition to magic.

when you think about it..POH' seemlike another one of the pointless additions to the game. What exactly is the purpose of having a house? if you can only see your own, then you can't invite people over and show them your craftsman ship. Maybe they'll skip the x-mas and halloween events so they can continue work on adding a whole new area....just for POH's and a trasportation system. This would work in that you type ne name of the players house. to knock on the door, which brings up a message saying something like "Gerudo_shiek would like to come in" Accept or Decline. that could work...

Although carpentry could be an addition to the crafting skill. I think that the amount of 'things' you could make from wood is far too large to be part of another skill. Also, crafting usually focuses on making things from hides or ores. Whereas fletching focuses on things made from wood.

Don't get me wrong, carpentry is in no way connected with carpentry.

Summoning however could easily be part of magic, as there is a more limited variety of things that could be made. Since in-game, the dude near port sarim says 'necromancy', and not 'summonin;. I believe it will focus on the dead creatures, not the living.

That may seem a bit off topic, but as carpentry could be a much bigger part of the game than summoning will be, I would think it make sense to add it as a new skill. Which would also make a certain player to not have perfect skill total. =)

If it does become part of crafting, im not complaining, it'll mean i can increase my level easier. =)

Only the Jagex Team know what's going to happen in the future. If anything, they're still trying to figure out how it's going to work, or we probably would have had it a long time ago next to farming.

All we can do is be loyal Runescape players and wait patiently for this brand new skill. They promised it, and they know we want it dearly to put it on the 'do not suggest' list in the Runescape Suggestions Forum.

If anything, it will be like farming where players can see their own work. But what I think would happen is that there will be this service clerk who you can talk to, type in a player's name in the 'who do you want to visit' box, and a message will be sent to the player if he's there. From there, he can say 'yes or no' to allow the person to visit.

Have faith and give them time. the Jagex Team aren't gods.

I think that Carpentry would be a new skill because people with high crafting would just make there houses and stuff. I also think that carpentry would be more like fletching but you might have to make things piece by piece.

Example: You have made an oak chair leg!
You have made an oak chair leg!
You have made an oak chair leg!
You have made an oak chair leg!
You have made an oak chair back!
You have made an oak chair bottom!
You attach an oak chair leg to an oak chair bottom!
You attach an oak chair leg to an oak chair bottom!
You attach an oak chair leg to an oak chair bottom!
You attach an oak chair leg to an oak chair bottom!
You attach an oak chair back to an oak chair bottom!
Congratulations you have made an oak chair!

If that was true, I'd expect many players getting annoyed and bored with the skill easily. perhaps if it were like;

You make 3 stool legs from the Mahoghany log.
You make 1 stool seat from the Mahoghany log.
You use your rune nails and hammer to put the peices together.
You have sucessfully made a Mahoghany stool!

The fewer things you have to do to get what you want the better. But things will have to be baanced. Just hopefully not too complicated.

or...if you want that seriously F'ed up look to your house....

You cut a chair leg from the log.
You cut 3 chair legs from the maple log.
You cut a chair bottom from the yew.
You cut a chair back from the oak.
You wrap the skin of (insert name of recently pk'ed player here) around the chair bottom for a cushion.
Conratulations! You have succesfully proves you are a nim rod! TRY AGAIN!
