Post subject:  Anyone care to test my formula?

Well I made a post yesterday in the rsb&b site comments forums regarding the combat calculator formula. I was informed that the staff here does not wish to disclose their formula and of course I respect that. However as some of you may have encountered it does error from time to time. I have tried to produce a more accurate formula and believe I may have succeded. Here is the formula...

Combat level = the greatest of

2/7*attack+2/7*strength+2/7*defense+2/7*hits+1/8*prayer
rounded to the nearest whole number if melee based

4/7*ranged+2/7*defence+2/7*hits+1/8*prayer
rounded to the nearest whole number if ranged based

4/7*magic+2/7*defence+2/7*hits+1/8*prayer
rounded to the nearest whole number if magic based

the error i recieved from the calculator provided here was that my stats of
84 attack
88 strength
84 defence
88 hits
65 prayer
80 ranged
80 magic

Provided a result on the calculator of 107 but an actual in game combat level of 106.

The above formula corrects that discrepancy as well as a few others I was aware of. If you don't understand the formula please feel free to post your stats and actual combat level here so I can test them myself especially if the rsb&b calculator provides an inaccurate result for you. I think this is most likely the same formula they use except they probably neglected the rounding of the results. I am still interested to see if the numbers of each equation should be rounded individually rather than the entire result but so far this way seems accurate.

Well I was so much complaining as trying to help this site offer a correct formula in order to help people accurately project their combat advancements but thank you for the constructive criticism...

Um... I'm sorry but that formula you posted is more than 50% wrong in our database of stats.

Lets say we have:
1att*(2/7) + 1str*(2/7) + 1def(2/7) + 10hits(2/7) + 1pray*(1/8 ) that equals 3.84 which rounds up to 4 cause you said round to nearest whole number.

I think everyone knows that you are level 3 when you start out not level 4...

me mental2 what is your problem? Why are you jumping in here flaming me for no reason? If your not interested in this topic take a walk. Your statement that their is no 100% accurate formula is completely foolish. Obviously there is since runescape is a program. It determines a combat level based on a formula, we have just yet to find it.

So all flaming and illogical statements aside, has anyone found an set of statistics that do not accurately compute with this formula yet? If so please let me know as I would like to continue experimenting if I haven't found the correct one yet.

EDIT: Thanks mike, I'll keep trying then.

re-EDIT: Interesting, it seems like it may simply be that it always rounds down. I'll run a few examples based on that.

no...no one has figured out the EXACT formula outside of Jagex because it's impossible. Jagex doesn't show you decimal points in your combat lvl..so it's impossible to determine how exact you are.

not impossible, just uber hard, or...the easier way...become highly proficient in the programming language of java, and decompile the source code OR work for jagex as a spy :P

OR become highly proficient in the martial arts and use of a gun, go over to andrew an beat it out of him<====that is just a joke, i do not condone or encourage violence, i do however ecourage SPAM SPAM SPAM yum yum yum...meat in a can! :P lol

EDIT: o and with my stats your formula says im lvl 67...im 84...unless i used the wrong one? my highest cb stat is mage so i assume im magic based?

Either it always rounds down or rounds up.
Now if it rounds down, doesn't work for other.

Yes I see that now thanks.
Just for the record, I was in no way trying to discredit this site or all the hard work you all have done to provide us all with such excellent tools free of charge. Not sure why my attempt here was taken as such but either way I will drop it now and continue my testing without bothering you all further.
