Well,i sent a complaint in for me being hacked....is it me or does Jagex like doesnt care you get hacked....i ran norton and all those things and found nothing..now i wana send a complaint about this letter, and yes i do understand theirs many people in rs that sends complains daily and they cant deal with them personally, but this letter made me kinda mad, o and the reason i havent been on in a while is!!!dum dum duuuuuu,im grounded ![]() Hi Mithman23, Thanks for your message, we are sorry to hear that someone else has had access to your account. The only way that a player account can be hacked is if: 1: The player has been careless in securing their passwords or security questions. Usually by passing them on to friends or family, or entering them into a site other than http://www.RuneScape.com 2: The player has been careless about security and has allowed a trojan or keylogger to be installed on their machine which has managed to collect his password. This often happens when visiting RuneScape hack websites. 3: The player has used a machine to play RuneScape that has a trojan or keylogger installed on it already. To make sure that the account is not accessed by anyone else again, you will need to submit a password appeal. However, before requesting a new password it is vital that you ensure the computer being used is completely free from viruses, trojans and keyloggers. To do this a system wide virus scan should be performed. If you do not have any antivirus software, you can search for 'free online virus scan' in any popular search engine and a number of webpages will be displayed that will perform virus scans and removal free of charge. You should also have a fully working firewall to protect from unwanted users accessing the computer; an excellent free firewall can be downloaded from http://www.zonealarm.com Once you have ensured your computer is secure, and wish to regain access to your account, please click the Password Support link on the front page of our website, and provide as much information as possible, so we can be sure we are returning the account to it's rightful owner. For more information about keeping your account safe I strongly recommend that you read and follow ALL the Security Tips listed in the Rules and Security area of the main RuneScape site. Unfortunately our policy is to never return lost items since doing so just encourage users to claim they lost items they never had to gain an unfair advantage. Sincerely, RuneScape Customer Support -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On 28th May 2005 you sent us the following: i took a break off of runescape for about a month, when i came back on it was all gone, i didnt catch the ip address because i usualy dont check it, and just click on "close window," im very mad and dont know who would of got my password, and luckily they didnt take my mime ; ) |

That's not rubbish. When i was hacked, i got that same message. What they're trying to say is that you need to send in a Password Query. Yes, it really does work. If they believe you, they will lock your account. Then, they will tell you to send in some more stuff just to make sure you arn't lieng. It worked for me, and hopefully it works for you. |

Do the Password Query. If it's your account and you know everything about it. It'll work. |

People don't get hacked. It's not virtually possible for someone to enter your account without your password, and no one can hack your account while you are logged in to gain your password, and no one can hack your computer to access a file with your password on it that doesn't even exist. No one gets hacked, they give their password away through trusting others or letting their guard down and recieving a keylogger. Sorry, just really irks me when people call it "being hacked" when it is nowhere close. Jagex has that message to say in a nicer way "you were messing around on bad websites and got a keylogger or you are too trust-giving to people that just want to steal your stuff". Advice: Ditch Norton. It isn't good, at all. Get this application called "AVG". It's very good. Google it. Get a firewall. A good way to tell if you have a firewall or not is this: If you don't know what kind of firewall you have or aren't sure if you have one or not, then you should just go ahead and say that you don't have one! The normal Microsoft firewall that comes with your computer is not good enough, and if that is all you are using, than you are in danger of far worse then a simple keylogger. In fact, if you let your computers security down so low by using the normal PC's firewall, you are lucky if a keylogger is all you got. go to Zone-Alarm and download their firewall. It's free, and it's very good. But note, even if you have Service Pack 2, still get zonealarm. but if you have a router, don't worry about it. They have built in firewalls. And lastly, DONT TRUST ANYONE! Not your brother, parents, anyone. I know people getting keylogged by family members and close friends all the time. Good luck. |

Don't worry about it too much dude. as long as you get your password back, you're good right? Maybe some loser just kept on guessing and guessing your password, finally got it right, and took your stuff cuz most people keep their compys clean of viruses. |

Totally know where youre coming from woody. My account got hacked a while ago and they used it to advertise other websites in varrock. they didnt take anything but they got it banned. i send a message to them and they send me back the exact same message as you got. but i sent in a password query after checking my comp of course and they asked me to do it again and i did and then they un-banned it. trust me it works. they just have to be careful because there is no way for them to tell who is using your account whether it be you or some other random. its your account and youll know everythin about it so you have like a 99% chance of them giving it back to you. just a tip...when they ask for extra info on your account try and say what you were wearing, list about 3 friends, and some skills that arent on the highscores list if you have any, and how much money you have in the bank if you can remember. often giving them info that not many if any people know helps alot in veriffying its you good luck |
