The last part I need for my PC build is the GPU. I think it's the most important part and that's why I saved it for last.

I can't decide between the GTX 770 OC or 7970 GHz edition. Both are around the same price ($400). These are the ones I'm looking at right now:

Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 (OC):

AMD Radeon HD 7970 (GHz ed.):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202001

Specs are shown on the details page.

Here is my build thus far:
    Intel Core i5-4670K
    MSI Z87-G45 Gaming MOBO
    8GB DDR3 2133MHz RAM
    1TB HD
    64GB SSD
    850W PSU (80+ Silver)
    Full Tower ATX Case
Corsair Hydro Series 100i Liquid Cooler (for CPU)
    DVD 24x Burner

Given this chart, I'd be tempted to go for the 7970 Ghz ed. Also, while speculation, I'm wondering if PC games will start to cater to AMD's GPUs in the coming years now that all consoles will be using AMD GPUs. Nvidia said that this won't happen and that they'll continue to make drivers and cards, but I've seen what developers can do when they are given money by AMD or Nvidia to optimize specifically for one of the card makers...

The 770 is a 680 with better Boost technology, plus slightly faster memory.

In reality, each should be fairly similar in terms of performance, so you really won't lose out in either case. Each you should be able to overclock yourself and have decent results, so I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor.

On an unrelated note, I'd probably go for a 120GB SSD if you could. 64GB is doable, but you've got to pay much more attention to what you're doing, where you're installing things, where you're unzipping files, etc. I've got a 60GB SSD in one of my laptops and it is a pain to remember to do those type of things, while the 120GB SSD in my desktop I'm no longer concerned by anymore.

Also your PSU is overkill for your setup. Given this awesome PSU calculator, even with a 4GHZ overclock on your CPU, you'll be pulling down around 400W at max power draw. You'd be fine with a 600W PSU if you wanted, and even that would provide extra power should you require. If you're going to be using Crossfire or SLI at some point, then I would say that the 800W PSU might work out a little better.

Looks like it's going to be a helluva beast by the time it's running! Congrats :)

Thanks for the input! I also heard PC games may cater more toward AMD cards down the road. I might just end up waiting for the Radeon HD 8000 series to come out and see what they have to offer. By that time, the Radeon HD 7970 should drop in price a little bit, which would be a good time to pick one up. I only got that 850W PSU because it was on sale for a killer deal of $40. Otherwise I probably only would have gotten a 600W PSU. I plan to OC the CPU over 4GHz. I won't OC the GPU because I don't want to void the warranty on that part. That is one of of the reasons why I'm going with the manufacturer OC editions. Thanks again for the info!

I would go for the 7970 as well. Also what power supply is that?

I've had my eye on the Radeon HD 7970 for a while now. It's cool how they come with 4 free games also. Not the reason why I'd buy it but it sure is a nice bonus. Here is that PSU:

The link might not work on your PC cause I'm using my phone right now and it's a mobile link.

I just notice it got 1 bad review after I bought it because the PSU came dead for that person. Hopefully that's not the case for me and I doubt it will be.

Thanks for the heads up! I never really did any research behind the PSU other than finding the cheapest price. It looks like there's much more importance than just price. I can return that PSU so that's what I'll do.

Yeah, never, ever cheap out on the PSU. A bad PSU could destroy all your other components. Select one with the power you need from a reputable manufacturer.

As for your GPU choices, the 770 seems nearly identical to the 7970, but I'm biased to the 7970 because I have one ;)
AMD cards OC fairly well, not sure if the new nVidia ones OC well or not. Also with the new consoles using AMD hardware, it's most likely that games in the near future will run better on AMD cards.
Also from the PC thread, the AMD 8000 series is supposedly rebrands of the 7000 series for OEM, so the next generation is really the 9000s. Specs for the 9970 have been released already.

I'm returning that HEC PSU to get my $70 back. I found a killer deal on a Tier 2 750W PSU (went with 750W for near future SLI setup). I ordered the OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular Gaming 80+ Bronze PSU for $80 with sale and promo code ($60 after mail-in rebate!). I think it was a good deal and I'll feel a lot more comfortable knowing I have a good reliable PSU.

EDIT: Plus it comes with a free copy of Far Cry 3... :)

I'm thinking about downgrading to the Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 (OC) now to save some $$$. I'll be able to play the games I plan to play at ultra settings. I'm looking at ordering this one:

I just won a new Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition (1000MHz core clock speed) on ebay for $306.10 CA. $15 shipping and $16 taxes (Alberta). Final price of $337 CA. Retail price (including shipping and taxes) at Newegg.ca is $464.03 CA.

The only downside is I don't get the free copy of games (Far Cry Blood Dragon, Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite), but that's okay because I only want Crysis 3 and I can buy it for $30 right now.

If you had the option to switch to a brand new EVGA Geforce GTX 680 Boost 4GB GDDR5 memory for an extra $20-40 (final price of $337-350 depending on what bid goes up to) would you? The same store on ebay is selling one and the auction ends in 3 hours. I can return my Radeon HD 7970 GHz edition.

This is the model:

My only concern is that it looks like a reference model and the stock nvidia fan may not be that great at cooling the GPU as opposed to the Gigabyte Windforce card I bought earlier.

I'd say stick with your 7970.
