Our home ISP just upgraded us to this from about a 6Mbps downlink (lolwut living in the dark ages) but the depressing part is that it's now about twice as fast as my flat's connection :(

Hay guise bet you can't get a speedtest to New Zealand even 10% as fast as this

Image

My flatmate works in the network research department of our university and this is a speedtest from one of the networks on a 100Mbit switch (and the university itself is only connected to the outside world on a 1Gbit link so this is pretty impressive). The university's ISP also only has 1Gbit of total bandwidth across the Southern Cross Cable (New Zealand's only international link, to Australia) to dish out though, so needless to say, speeds to other countries aren't quite as flattering...

The Hamilton speedtest server is operated by the university's ISP though, so it would be interesting to see how fast it would go, say, in the middle of the night, if it weren't limited by the switch...

My phone, on 3G, from my flat:

My flat :( (to be fair though, for our data use, we probably deserve this speed):

When I did that test I had no idea what was wrong but i later found out that it was something to do with wireless devices.

Yeah, you should prob do that again to get a more accurate result.
(Plus it has been a while)

Anyway, I haven't done mine in a while so here it is.

Just got Teksavvy Cable at my mom's house. We are paying for 6Mbps/0.25Mbps (garbage upload speed :/) and this is what we get. Currently using an old WRT54G router so these speeds are significantly lower than wired which I might get around to testing later. Pings are also very very low, even better than DSL. Extremely pleased.

I've redone it with a wired connection and it's only slightly better
