I'm curious to see the difference in the number of accidents caused by each. And they just did it just for a one lane roundabout. The ones in Europe are way bigger and you can get stuck in those things for a long time if you are on the inside.

You shouldn't get stuck in a roundabout, you have right-of-way to exit if you are in an inner lane. With proper signaling, people will leave room for you to exit.

There's only a few 2-lane roundabouts in my city but I like them. They definitely feel more efficient than having a 4-way stop if there is moderate traffic. With too much traffic, I think traffic lights are more efficient because you can go faster and big roundabouts take up so much space.

roundabouts are great untill you run into a 3 or 4 lane one. Then the gloves are off no **** knows what lane there supposed to be in so most sit in the middle then swerve off whenever they see there exit without signaling. I have the pleasure of driving through one of them daily.

I'd never used one until they added then in town several years ago. Took some getting used to but now I love them. Made my morning commute much quicker.

yea roundabouts take some getting used to by the people in the area where they are going to be put to use. however I've seen the larger ones across the pond that cause traffic nightmares at almost any hour of day. so I'm glad that the few over here in Michigan are smaller. though the one does have 3 lanes and 5 branches out from it and I avoid that one like the plague that it is.

A lot of the busy multi lane roundabouts in the UK these days also have several sets of traffic lights that you have to go through as you drive around the bigger ones. Hold ups can be long at peak times but at least each entrance onto them gets a chance to move onto the roundabout. But little shunts and bumps are an everyday occurence on some of the worst roundabouts in Newcastle.

Got my first experience with roundabouts when I went to University in Edmonton years ago. They only came to Ontario recently. We now have several in our area and I do find them to be much more efficient in moving traffic through an intersection. Takes a bit to get used to at the beginning but I think they are great.

Is knowledge of roundabouts (we call them traffic circles in Edmonton, too!) a testable requirement for Americans learning to drive? Especially the ones with multiple lanes.

It is in the Uk and it's often where a lot of people gain faults (I had a year many moons ago as a driving instuctor). Usually minor ones on observation and road positioning.
