At work, I realized that my manager has been complaining about the main PC that we use as a cash register. I've looked around and as soon as you start the pc this pops up before you can even log on. I have a decent amount of PC knowledge and services and I was wondering if this could be fixed. I have a feeling that this may be a virus and I'm afraid of telling my manager because he may pin me as I mainly use the PC for register work. It causes many problems having this svchost error. I have to work around it everytime I start the computer up which is a pain. Any easy fix to this?

Also this is on Windows XP SP3

svchost is actually part of windows. if you ever do ctrl alt delete, you will see lost of it running in the background. it's safe but since it is not working, god knows why it's doing that

Microsoft KB article on svchost.exe on WinXP Pro SP3

From what I can see, svchost is needed by EventSystem, Netman, NtmsSvc, RasMan, SENS, TapiSrv, and RpcSs. If you're not having issues with anything, and just getting the warning, it might be something tolerable. However, it wouldn't hurt to do a few scans.. If the file is corrupt in some way, it could (hopefully) be easily diagnosed by a fairly quick System File Check. To do this, go to the command line as an administrator and type "sfc /scannow" . It may need a copy of a Windows XP SP3 disc to do any repairs if it finds issues.
