Problems, again -_- This time on my other laptop.... I have a IBM Thinkpad Running windows xp professional with service pack 3.

Under Hardware in network adaparts it shows,

11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter

The problem is... when i join my own wifi, it stays at acquiring network adress for ever, and it wont change. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks.

Funny, I'm on a IBM thinkpad right now. Coincidence? I think yes.

Which model do you have?
Mine is a R60e and the wireless adapter is the same as yours.

If this is the second laptop that you can't connect by wireless, maybe it's time to put on the list that the router might not be working correctly.

Try resetting the router to default factory settings. And then try connecting again.
What if disable the wireless security (temporarily) ? Are you able to connect?
Try disabling your firewall as well.

By the way:
Spoiler for Sexual related language:

Does your laptop have the *****ahem* mouse?

Possibly a DNS/DHCP problem, who is your ISP? What wirless router (company and model)? Is your router set to automaticly give out network adress? can u send me the results of running "ipconfig /all" in command prompt if your connection is a limited one (no quotes) but before you do any of that run, in command prompt, "ipconfig /flushdns" (no quotes) and try to reconnect

ALSO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT PASSWORD IF YOUR USING A SECURE WIRELESS NETWORK!!

Though if that does work, and i doubt it would, it's only a temporary fix as disabling your firewall would leave you vulnerable, i belive it is a problem with your router (probably DNS/DHCP) if it has happened on multiple computers.

Obviously I didn't intend to make him disable his firewall forever. Just a simple test.

He is able to connect by LAN (if I recall from an MSN conversation) so it might not be a DHCP / DNS problem.

EDIT: At the start I was almost sure he was entering the wrong security password (since he doesn't get authentication) but Lucas says he's able to connect through wireless with his Ipod/Itouch (can't remember).

Confirm this for us Lucas.

Indeed a friend of mine had a problem like this were it worked on his iPad and wired (though i've seen cases several time were you can connect via ethernet and it was still a dns problem) But i suggest you contact your ISP or your router manufacturer if the problem persists.

If you're using the thinkvantage software, disable that. Use Microsoft's and microsoft's alone. I've had issues with that on both my laptop before a reinstall, and my dad's before a reinstall. Try disabling that and use the Microsoft's wireless program instead.

EDIT - Ok.. This has been solved... Wish someone would have reported requesting a lock..
