I got cheated on one of my Japan answers. Apparently the correct answer was in the ocean.

My Guess!

Was it beginner's luck, or my good knowledge of geography and languages?

Edit: Guess 2

This is an amazing in browser game where you get 5 random street view sites from around the world. Your job it to guess where they come from. You can move around and use anything in from street view to help you, but don't start googling places or anything like that.

What do you guys think? Paste your high scores too!

Here is my highscore. Did it completely without Google. :P

Edit:
Welp I didn't see that there was already a topic for this. Here is a comic to make up for it.

That's great.
Its a bit slow to move around so instead I just give myself like 10 seconds to zoom in to nearest sign and take a guess from that.
Or in Australia I just look at the ground colour after I've recognised the eucalyptus trees.

Not bad...

Played this before, it's good fun but sometimes frustrating as hell, like for instance the one I got massively wrong here, it was just one of those photo's someone has uploaded to google maps so you can't move around on it, and this one just happened to be in the middle of a forest with a blurry sideways sign to one side and what looked to be a National Trust info board infront of me. Turns out it was something German... mmm.

Best indicators are signs by far, find a sign and you should manage to get within 100km by noticing surroundings, sort of vague knowledge of how the place sounds in your head and where that should fit in a country, (e.g. scandinavians).

Flags are a good help too if you can spot them, just like: LOL 'murrica

Some clues I've been using as I've been playing:
> If the quality is very, very grainy, it's in the US midwest
> Metric vs. Imperial = Place in the world
> Know the signs in your backyard
> Memorize the colours of various traffic plates in the EU, the numbers itself are censored, but the border + background colour give great hints
> Know this list inside-out: http://www.google.com/help/maps/streetv ... -resorts-and-slopes/
> Know Quebec vs. English Canada
> Know Maritimes vs. Rest of Canada
> Know rough elevation of various parts of North America
> Know which countries drive on the left
> Know the pattern of Interstate numbers in the US (multiples of 5s, multiples of 10s, what even numbers mean, what odd numbers mean, and what odd/even prefixes mean for interstate ring roads and spurs)

Using all of that, I got 15k without googling (which you guys seem to not do at all, is it frowned upon?). With googling, I got
http://geoguessr.com/?v=eyJ0b3RhbFBvaW5 ... bmdlU2NvcmUiOm51bGx9

One time I was at a resort island owned by Spain. There were Spanish flags and EU flags flown everywhere, even the signs were in Spanish. I didn't know exactly where I was, so I googled some landmarks, and I was on some island off the coast of Morocco, which I thought wasn't right at all. After giving up my location, I placed my guess somewhere along the coast of Spain, turns out the ISLAND OFF MOROCCO WAS CORRECT!

Know your colonies and world history!
